Hi xojooliexo,
Does this happen everywhere, whether you had strong 3G or weak 3G previously in that location, or are you only trying in localised area? If it's the latter you may want to check out our coverage checker to ensure there is local 3G signal - if there is weak signal then the phone may only be finding it for moments before losing it and reverting to Edge ("E") or 2G ("O").
If there should be signal, then you may want to check the Faults Board in case there is a localised issue which is affecting you.

Hi Julie,
This seems to be a pretty common reported problem with Vodafone and the new iPhone5. I face exactly the same issue as you (and it seems we are not alone)...check out many other similar posts on this forum...
Coverage in my area is from one of Vodafone's top end cells (HSPDA), allegedly with full strong coverage indoor and outdoor. But still the problem is so frustrating where the phone regularly drops off 3G coverage and falls back to GPRS (the 'o' symbol)... I also experience dropped voice calls, which I think is related to the switch between 3G and 2G networks. The internet is virtually unusable when the phone is stuck in 'o' mode...
Currently the recommendation, for me, from Apple and Vodafone (after trying several iPhone 5 handsets and multiple Nano SIMs and various troubleshooting techniques) is to :
a) Wait for a software update from Apple and see if it is fixed (who knows when...)
b) Take up the offer of the Apple iPhone buy-back scheme from Vodafone (today they will offer us £420 for our iPhone5s) and purchase another handset (I don't really want to make the switch to Android or WIndows phone 😞 )
c) Try another iPhone5 handset - Apple or Vodafone will replace (although with so many other people experiencing the same problem I don't see how this will help)
Sorry I can't give you any more options - but this is where I've got to! I'd be very interested to hear if you make more progress or reach a satisfactory resolution!!!
GOOD LUCK!
Andy (frombath)

This seems to be a problem with the iphone5 itself or a carrier update that was released. I just got to the UK and am experiencing the same problems with my iPhone5. It shows 5 bars and 3G signal yet when I go to use the internet on the device it fails to connect to anything. If you switch off the 3g and work on edge it works fine..
I've gotten the 3g to work in the exact same place but it seems to go extremely slow. I believe it's likey an issue with the phone reporting the improper reception from the cellular tower and it's actually not receiving a 3g signal but a very poor signal.

Vodafone should not be allowed to sell iPhone 5s on their network - they do not function correctly with the bands Vodafone operate.

Hi James,
The link has been removed, any chance you can repost it please? I have the same problem. Just upgraded from iphone4 to iphone5 and since then I can't get 3G.
Any help would be much appreciated.
