lolipop update fix galaxy s5

What specific issues are vodafone having releasing the lolipop update fix. My phone has been very buggy since the update provided in January. I can't afford to factory reset as I have encrypted code generator app on my phone which I am required to have for work. It's getting very annoying that I'm having to use a disfunctional phone at the moment especially as I am on a hefty price plan. It doesn't give me much confidence in vodafone that it is taking an exceptional amount of time for the issue to be resolved. With my contact ending next month not sure if vodafone is the right path to take again.

Is it possible to downgrade to kit kat as my phone worked perfectly then?

Exactly.

I do not want to go through the pain of a factory reset when I could be in exactly the same position.

Hi.

Since updating to 5.0 my text messages have been disappearing completely at random, and I am having to restart my handset every time it happens to get them back. It happens at random and always after sending a text. Upon pressing send, my entire message history disappears. Not just the current contact I've been messaging either, all of them are disappearing, as if they've all been deleted. They are fully restored after a restart, including the message I'd sent when they disappeared, but I shouldn't have to keep doing this, it's getting seriously annoying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Battery drain also! Unplugged charger just after midnight at 100% charge, woke up this morning at 7:30 to find my battery at a critical low of 4%. on 4.4.2 I was usually just under 90% when I woke up..

My advice is to avoid this update. It's laggy, full of bugs, and reduced my battery life by at the very least 80%,

Can anyone advice as to whether or not a factory reset is recommended here?

I got the update through kies last week. I have had the messaging bug twice but it seems to have gone away now. I didn't do a reset after updating and had all sorts of issues with apps crashing, phone not responding etc. I did a reset to try to go back to 4.4.2, only to find that the MBR has been overwritten and 5.0 comes back. It is better now though, the apps don't crash as much, but it is still unstable and slow compared to how the phone was on 4.4.2. I would do a reset and see if it makes a difference to you, but make sure you do a full backup beforehand.

Im havin exactly same issue...all messages disappear ..hav to restart phone to get them back....i wish i didnt update to lollipop...This needs sortin via a new lolipop update

Hi everyone,

Android 5.0 changes the phone to a new runtime called ART. As such, a wipe of the cache partition should resolve minor bugs.

You can do this by following the steps below:

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S5 by pressing the power button. Wait until the phone is completely shut down.
  • Now you have to press the following keys at the same time to turn on the phone again: power button ,volume up and the home button
  • If the Samsung Galaxy S5 vibrates once, release the power button, but keep the other two keys from the key combination pressed until a menu appears on the display.
  • Now select the entry "Wipe cache partition" with the volume down key. Once highlighted, tap the power button to select the option.
  • After a few seconds, the process will complete and the previously displayed menu appears.
  • Select the first entry "Reboot system now" with the power button. Your Samsung Galaxy S5 will now reboot.

Thanks,

Matt

We did this as suggested and then spoke to samsung who now have the phone they say

"We have located damage on your device and this damage is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

Our engineers have found Unautorized rework, Knox warranty void and are therefore unable to further assess any faults you were experiencing."

We have the phone under contract from vodafone and purchase from you and only had it 6 months - all we have done is updated the software and tried this fix first.

HELP!!!!

Hi there

If Samsung are refusing a warranty repair, there really isn't much you can do about it.  You could always call them up and have a chat to them, explain the situation and see what they say

Many thanks for the reply, Matt. However, I've already done this and the messaging error is still there. While it may only be an intermittent problem, it's still an issue that will need addressing.

@ajl2012

Thanks for your feedback and we'll pass this on.

We'll be happy to take a look at the device, to do this take a look at our repairs page.
