I would suggest going into a vodafone store to do this again just in case. There is one thing I would personally try before that if you have this option - If you are able to use your old phone with the old sim card dial 191 and follow the options there to speak to someone to get it sorted.
Other people might advise you to call an 0870 from a landline. I found I was waiting listening to music and getting nowhere doing that which is why I advise going to the most convenient vodafone store if you cannot do the other suggestion.

i popped into a vodafone shop asked for a change of pay as you talk sim card as i now have an iphone 4s, i was told it would be active in a few hours , i waited 7 1/2 hr and then chatted with customer care who told me he expected it to be active in 1hr or 3 hrs max i would have to wait, i waited another 4 hrs and again spoke with customer care chat log =

i wait a full 24 hrs and again spoke with customer care in chat who told me it could take another 4 hrs i gave customer care a landline number to phone me, which they did and was told it could be active in 4 hours and if not it could take between 24 hrs and 48 hrs |

Typically a SIM card is activated in a few minutes if done in store but as explained to you, it can take up to 24 hours. Has the SIM card been activated now? If not, the quickest way to sort it out would be to pop back into your local Vodafone Store and they can check to see what is going on. Perhaps the SIM is faulty?

just come off the landline with vodafone customer care sim card is still not active and was told that it may take 3 to 5 working days to be fixed , ands i cant migrate my mobile tele number until the fault is cleared
vodafone get your act sorted out between chat customer care and land line customer care everyone has told me a different story of what is wrong and what will happen until today, the customer care read back notes of what was supposed to have been said to me , yet it was the 1st time i was told it could take 3 to 5 working days to fix

I've only tried the online activation process once. the first attempt came back as failed as the details were wrong and the second took an age. I normally use LiveChat to do it (and went that route that time) as it's normally up and running before the session's finished. The fact that the swap was already in process didn't seem to matter.

Your best bet would still be to talk to LiveChat. You can probably be up and running in 5 minutes if you do that.
