One of my friend gave me a blackberry passport locked to Vodafone. I have tried to unlock that mobile from my native place, India. But they have told me to contact network provider directly. Please help me to find out the procedures

You'd need to be an existing Vodafone UK customer to unlock a UK device (if this is the case and the phone was purchased via the UK network). 

If the device was originally purchased on the Vodafone India network then you'd need to go through their customer services and processes detailed on their website. 

Alternatively you could try an independent high street phone shop - many offer third party unlocking services.

I have tried many third-party street shops. They have register ford unlocking code, but till now there is no response from those websites. Finally they have told me to contact network providers directly.

Actually my hand set is purchased from UK with Vodafone contract
