"please Insert Sim Card" Message

Yamaha
Not applicable
Bought this yesterday for my Asus EEE 901 GO netbook, running XP. At first the installation hung trying to install MS .Net - so I retried from My Computer. This seemingly worked OK, but when VMC started again, it showed the message "SIM card not found".

I checked and reinserted the card, but to no avail - still can't find the card, so no "Connect" box.

I deleated and reinstalled the software, but still the same result. Device Manager shows two Funai modems, but no yellow asterisks - so I deleated the second one, but still no joy.

Can anybody help, please, as I don't want to return it for a refund.

Being new on here, I did do a search for this problem before i posted - but couldn't find any references to it, or a solution.

Hi Tony - I will check mine for Orange software - it was an Orange contract machine.

Thanks to some very interesting posts on this forum, I have managed to get just the sim to work in the 3G slot - only snag I can see at the moment is that Asus Mobile Partner software doesn't seem to have any means to monitor usage or connection speed, so not sure how much credit I'm using!!

I must admit, I do prefer the card hidden away in the slot - rather than a vunerable dongle sticking out the side - plus one less thing to carry.

Still would like to know why the dongle won't install, though - if it IS faulty, it needs to go back to the shop for replacement - don't want to end up with a duff one - even if I'm not using it!!

Well, today I returned my dongle to the shop, after trying to install it on my other laptop, with the same results - "no SIM card found", so figuring it maybe was faulty.

Just tried the new one - at least it didn't try to install MS .NET Framework again - just the VMC software - same fault - "no SIM card found".

Talk about going round in circles!!

Hi Mike

As bewildering as it sounds I'm sure the core problem here is associated with the simcard.

Can you please try to insert the sim into a Mobile phone then see if you can aquire the Vodafone Network as well as browse Vodafone live (with an unlocked or Vodafone handset)

Thanks

Hello Reider - and thankyou for your response. Right, I tried the VF sim in my unlocked Nokia 6310i, and it appeared to find the network, with all the signal bars lit. I then tried to phone my other Orange mobile - but no connection. I found the sim card's number in the Nokia settings, so I then tried to phone that number, but it said "sim card not in use"

I must point out that I am a pensioner, so don't have the latest phones with internet access - even if I wanted one, I wouldn't be able to see the small screen, so it would be no good for me!!

As I said in an earlier post, the sim WILL work (well, the old one did, anyway) in the 3G slot on my Asus, but, of course, I have no monitoring of connection speed or usage with the Asus Mobile Partner software, so not an ideal solution.
