I have an older phone which uses a standard sim card. What i would like to know is - if I purchase one of the new triple sim cards - if i use it in my current phone and store all my contacts, then buy a new phone which takes a smaller sim card, will the contacts still be on the smaller sim card when I press out it and put it into the new phone?

Yes the multi sim cards push out if each other. The chip is in the centre.
Be aware a sim will only hold so many entries and only basic info.
Ie not addresses etc.
Current Phone >
Samsung Galaxy s²⁵ Ultra 512gb.

Hi @wizard1 you should set up (if not already done) a Gmail account (or similar) so that contacts etc. can be stored elsewhere and uploaded to any new phone you get.

Hi @wizard1
If both phones have bluetooth, you will be able to import your contacts via bluetooth without the need for a SIM card. You will need to make sure bluetooth is visable to all devices on the phone settings and it's easy to transfer between phones.
As well as backing up on an email account, I always think it's a good idea to double back up contacts and any saved content to a file on the PC.
