I've recently upgraded to an iphone 7 and want to unlock my old iphone 6, I have tried speaking and chatting on line to vodafone to get my phone unlocked but they can't help and say it must be a 'glitch' and try later!
When filling the network unlock form in it doesn't recognise either my vodafone telephone number or the imei number. Yes I have had my phone for two years and yes I bought it on-line and not originally vodafone, So any ideas what to do.
I have read many other people seem to have the same problem ! So what do I do now?

Where did the iPhone originally cone from @Carolinej0207 ?
Until Vodafone can see the iPhone's imei number and recognise your account details the unlock request wouldn't go any further.
If you get stuck one other way is to pick up a Vodafone Payg SIM card and use it for 30 days making calls and then fill out another request using the new details.
Please be aware the iPhone sing unlocked via a code. Instead Apple release it via their Data base after Vodafone ask them and can take sometimes 30 days.

the phone was 'ordered' on-line through the smartphone company, but all monthly payments have been paid to vodafone! so technically they provided the phone but I paid vodafone the montly amount for two years.

I'm thinking that's the issue then in regards to where the phone came from @Carolinej0207
As Vodafone didn't originally supply the phone the imei most probably won't be on their systems.
If you speak with Customer service on 191 they maybe able to advise if they are able to add the iPhone's imei number so the unlock can happen.

I've tried several times to explain to them but unfortunately they do not seem to understand and have said it's a glitch in the system and therefore try again. I'm just being fobbed off as usual, take your money but no customer service. I've even got a new contract with them (which is even more money on a new phone) which seems to add to the confusion too. I'm waiting for someone to come back to me from customer complaints but then again I'm not holding my breath in the meantime I've requested a vodafone payg sim but even that seems to be taking sometime for them to acknowlegde

Perhaps Vodafone you could kindly share the responses so the rest of us that have issues with vodafone in trying to get their phones unlocked and moved to another carrier can benefit... rather than sending the mysterious answer in a private message!!!
