Help with ASUS RT-AX 86S not connecting to ultrahub

Hi...I'm freaking out here.

I am trying to link my Asus router in Access Mode to the Ultrahub. I also have a phone line so they both need to be connected.

I have tried the ethernet from ONT to the Asus - nothing happens and Have connected both together - ONT to Ultrahub LAN and Ultrahub WAN to ASUS LAN and again nothing. It's impossible to get to the ASUS GUI as It won't connect to the internet.

I actullay had this set up recently without any issues (had to do nothing) and have also reset the Asus to factory settings via reset button and did the set up as described in the manual (which i didn't even read before...Please help is you can - TIA :Winking_smiley:

Hi.. I have my voip details - the technical stuff -

That won't be any use, you're not likely to get it to work with the ASUS.

“Your isp’s DHCP does not function properly”. I click on that and the GUI takes me back to the set up page- create a new network? The first page has lots of options and I just selected Automatic IP - should it be static?

You should be be using PPPoE with your Vodafone credentials, not DHCP.,

Nothing to do with static or automatic I.P.'s.

@Ripshod  can probably help more with the setup, as I've not actually used an ASUS.

After the WPS reset your first login to the router should be the Quick Internet Setup page. If you don't see that then the WPS reset hasn't completed successfully.

No worries. At the top of the left hand column is a button to activate QIS. You'll arrive at the "Create a New Network" page - this is right where you want to be. Enter your PPPoE login details on the first page (username format dslXXXXXXXXX@broadband.vodafone.co.uk). Second page will be wifi setup then final page will be router username and password.

The only other setting to possibly change is only relevant for a Cityfibre connection. I believe you have openreach(?).

If, and only if you're on Cityfibre you'll need to set the VLANID. In the router gui go to LAN>IPTV. For "Select ISP Profile" select "Manual Setting". Below that in the "Internet" box enter "911". Save those settings and reboot.

Believe it or not I actually managed to do all that late last night so i must be learning something and @Jayach set me on the right path lol and again thanks for your continued support.

So in router mode with Asus direct to ONT via a Cat 6 shielded cable we got this:

Playing Warzone again same time same few hours I have noticed that the game joining time was averaged out at 48ms to connect and in-game latency was an average of 22ms... weirdky not a great improvement but not sure if I can set the router better or it was just a "bad night" ???

I hope it was just a "Bad Night".

I wonder what your gateway is. Login to your router and on the index page near the top there's a box with "Internet Status". Click on the picture of the world and in the right hand column you'll see your Internet status in full. What is the gateway?

Gateway says 90.246.0.1

Also noticed that my PS4 is not plugged into the gaming port (1)..It's into port (3)?

Also in case it's important - My DNS in the PS4 LAN set up is for cloudflare (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1)...do I have to set that on the Asus as well?

As long as you haven't changed any dns settings on the router the Ps4 will still use the Cloudflare DNS. I actually recommend quad9 dns because I get better performance - some say they have good results using vodafone dns.

Welcome to West Yorkshire, you're on the Leeds gateway 😊

Leeds I think that's what I've been on since the start - Is that actually Manchester - My static IP is still showing as London? Also - do you need to see my DNS settings on the router?

I know what the router's dns will be if you haven't actually changed them manually - Vodafone.

Gibson research has a tool for windows that can test a list of dns servers to find the fastest - I'll grab a link for you.

Edit: https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

That all looks very complicated - any simple instructions lol ?

Lol. Download it, run it. It's quite intuitive to be honest, I understood it after the first run.
