High pings, packet loss and varying speeds

I’ve noticed high pings, packet loss and varying speeds on our Vodafone Fibre 910Mbps connection recently (Openreach). This only seems to be during peak times, Vodafone refusing to help as I’m not using their router which isn’t where the fault is, as it’s fine outside of peak times, it clearly an issue within either the core network, exchange or the area has been over subscribed.

Same results on both a wireless and wired connection, monitoring also clearly shows when the issues start.

Speed currently (can be anything between 32Mbps and 400Mbps)

Running into the exact same issue.

I had just switched 3 weeks ago from TalkTalk, where my latency was ~3-5ms on average. Now, my latency is ~15ms on average, with daily spikes of ~50ms. Echo server set to 8.8.8.8. Using my personal router.

Both providers via FTTP with CityFibre. Any idea what could be causing it?

It’s always been around 14ms for us, it’s the varying speeds and packet loss that’s causing problems at the moment.

iOS update stated 6 hours to download last night, ended up just switching to 5G so it was done in 8 minutes.

Its also been extremely annoying if working in the evening too as the VPN on my work laptop constantly drops due to the packet loss.

I’m based in Manchester but going off the multiple posts and comments on the forum it looks to have become the norm and it’s shocking it’s not been sorted and is a shame as it used to be reliable.

Was going to plug the Vodafone router back in to let support run their remote checks but I’m really not hopeful now based on what people are reporting.

My internet seems to drop out for a few seconds once an hour or so.  I notice it most whilst working over RDP.  Do you think this is the same issue?

If I run a ping -t I see the following during the outage:

Power cycling the City Fibre socket and the router solves the problem for a few days, but this isn't really a solution?  Seems there is either a problem with the software in the router or a City Fibre conflict somewhere?

My networking knowledge is basic - but this feels like it's above the physical network layer?  WIFI stays up and most devices don't notice so I don't think it's a channel conflict with a neighbour or another device causing the issue.  I also disconnected the 5g backup device which hasn't made an difference.

Anyone know if there is a way of reporting this in writing rather than having to explain everything to the support team (who are nice and helpful... but invariably have me disconnecting Roku sticks / wiggling cables / resetting to factory defaults.)?
