I have noticed repeated disconnects in the Vodafone router log for the WAN connection.
They do not seem related to anything happening in the house nor the number of devices connected. Sometimes there are a few on a day. Today it has lasted just over a 24 hour period before disconnecting and going through the PPP authentication and resuming.
this is a bit of a pain. Especially if watching tv or working!
is there a usual / expected length of time. I am fairly sure that when I have looked in the log in the past the run time is several days.
Have had a recent text chat with Vodafone where they went through and checked the router settings. No idea what else to do other than get back on the phone.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Under normal circumstances, it wouldn't normally be set up to disconnect at all! VDSL connections can be set up to disconnect but it's the exception and not the norm! You might at worst expect a re-sync once a week, while there is little to no traffic on the connection in order to change the sync rate, but that's about it!

Thank you. That’s really helpful.
So something is wrong and I will get in touch with VF tomorrow again.
