Interleaving

Hello, I have recently just left Virgin Media and I'm now a Vodafone broadband customer on the fibre 2 package of upto 77 download and 20 upload, I have a friend who works for openreach and he told me to ask and request to have interleaving completely turned off on my line (BLM) as I'm a gamer and the reducing in ping when disabling interleaving could be massive for me, what do I need to do for this to happen

So out of curiosity, I'd have to ask what level of interleaving you currently have on your modem/router?  If it's currently at 1 then no interleaving is taking place!  Generally speaking the modem part of the router will only use an interleaving profile when it's necessary if it's not necessary it'll fall back to re-transmission (the last thing you want with on-line gaming).  Also be aware that the figures you see for extra lag are often just the worse case scenarios, the reality often being just 2-3 ms!

Genuinely I'd see how you get on, before requesting this as with a 77Mbps connection I'd doubt it's interleaving anyhow!

Thanks for the reply, my Vodafone service hasn't gone live yet, I have an engineer coming out on the 23rd, I'm on VM at the minute which gets cancelled in 2 days and that doesn't use interleaving or what not, I've just been told by multiple people by requesting to have interleaving disabled or changed to fastpath for your BLM it has reduced their ping massively from like 34 to 8ms

once you've read what I put above and reply to that, when my Vodafone service goes live on the 23rd where do I need to go in the router settings or whatever to find out if interleaving is on or off

Okay, so just reviewing things and according to BT interleaving can add 20-30ms  not 2-3 as I'd stated/thought (which is getting significant)!  But what happened to the 77Mbps connection, and an interleave of 863 is really high!  It might be that the values will change as the connection settles...  You can try chatting to VF support to get the interleaving turned off, but it could well have a detrimental effect on the rest of your connection!  *And good luck speaking to a VF tech who has a clue in hell as to what you are asking for!

Yeah I spoke with the engineer that came out to install the broadband yesterday, he said if he turns interleaving off it’s only gonna turn itself back on for now as it’s a fresh line, he said give it two weeks and then ask Vodafone to have it disabled but reading these articles about it, it seems like they don’t have a clue

Hey @Steveyk98 As the engineer advised, once your line's settled, pop us a message on Facebook or Twitter and we'll be happy to help with this  😊

Hey mark, thanks for the reply, yeah I will wait 2 weeks as the open reach engineer advised, but he specifically told me to contact my isp (Vodafone) and they need to disable interleaving for me, I’ve read on here and all the replies from Vodafone are saying only openreach can do it etc or they don’t have a clue what it even means

hey, it looks like interleaving May have been changed to fastpath turned off completely now, my hub just restarted itself and my interleaving depth has gone from 863 to 1

tell me what you think to my line now, before my ping was 14-17ms with high depth, now it’s at 1 interleaving depth my ping is now 5ms which is great!
