Ping/Latency way higher Gigafast 900

I used to get 5ms ping to London (from Coventry), now I am being auto connected to Edinburugh and I get 15 ping to there, when I try to speedtest to London or even right next to me in Leicester I am getting pings above 22...I called in and they just said "they added new servers and there's nothing much we can do"...

any help?

That's unusual @Ripshod  - was it on Facebook or Twitter, and which options did you get with your first message?

I think it's gone through on my second attempt. Didn't get any options at all this time, no acknowledgment either. Can I pm you my details, make sure you get them?

Unlike your WAN IP which is pulled from a pool, the gateway IP usually refers to a specific device - even if it has many thousands of devices connected through it.

Using a VPN simply creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and the VPN entry point, transport to the VPN exit point, and then a standard connection from there to your target IP.

*When performing a tracert command the gateway should be the first or second IP listed, not the 9th or tenth as it appeared in one earlier post - that would suggest there is something very badly wrong, possibly within the LAN!

The reason for that is, I shared a reverse/inbound traceroute online tool which will trace your external IP address from the USA, that's why the VF BNG was showing as the 9/10th hop. I would totally agree that there would likely be a problem if it was an outbound traceroute!

So just to get this straight:  You ran a reverse traceroute (mtr/pathping) using a VPN with an endpoint in the USA and did not expect such high latency?  Have you considered using an endpoint in New Zealand or Antarctica instead?

Of course you're right about that. However, no-one can deny the fact that the latency within the UK has more than doubled for us. A problem still exists while that evidence is flawed.

Going to research how to quote on here.

*edit*

My participation here may be in error. I'm the only one on OR. I had that error when I checked my network status. Everything I may be experience is likely just coincidence. I'm going to fall back and let everyone investigate CF's possible part in this. I'll still be watching.

I'm sorry for muddying the water.

FYI this forum loads a lot faster on my 4G connection than on my broadband.

I'm rejoining. There are so many similarities between this and my own problem it's uncanny (wordplay, think Edinburgh). Didn't someone suggest this would be resolved today (the Manchester BNG)?

I think I still remain the only one on openreach involved?

Latency has been 5-9ms for many of us normally and it has jumped up to 18-20ms.

I do know that latency is going to be higher when it’s international but the idea of using that tool was to see which BNG was being used by running the trace route. And we can see the BNG is in the wrong part of the country for where we use the service.

Still no more info, ngl it's weird how much lack of communication there is. Not just for the customers but also the other staff, you'd think CityFibre and Vodafone would both be in the loop on what's happening.

In the end they told me not to contact through socials and call the Gigafast team @Amanda I said I already called and spoke on forum but they just dismissed it. It's pretty hard to get through to someone anyways, I get a response 4+ hours after I DM them and it's always from a different person.
