Can anyone advise if they have been able to get a static IP address which shows the location they reside in? I ask a detailed below is my story so far in trying to obtain one:
As a resident in Northern Ireland. My WAN IP address 90.xxx.xxx.xxx shows a location in Scotland. This is causing problems in viewing certain info on sites in Ireland such as rte.ie as they restrict content to within Ireland.
On 13th Nov I requested a static IP address from Vodafone that would show a location in Northern Ireland. This took 24hrs and the new IP 193.xxx.xxx.xx was giving a location in London so no good. Spoke again to Vodafone who after much explaining what I needed agreed to sort it. Another 24hrs till this morning 15th Nov and what had they done but deactivated my static IP and a new dynamic one 81.xx.247.xx showed a location again in Scotland.
Onto Vodafone again both by phone where I was told it wasn’t possible, and then to chat, where the agent said they would remove content blocks (which I know is not the problem) and I tried to get them to give me a static IP address with Northern Ireland location. After half an hour, with the agent stating they were working on it I checked my IP and it was showing 84.xx.xx.xx with Bangor, NI as location. However, I was informed that this IP could not be made static as they can’t give static ip’s with a specific region. This is what the agent quoted "I wish I could do that for you but this is not possible and this IP address given through by government authority." Whatever that means!
So at present I am not any further to a solution but will wait till tomorrow to see if anything updates and the rte website allows access.
Any help appreciated.

Geolocation is not one of vodafone's strong points. The static IPs I've had all geolocated to the south of England (I'm in West Yorkshire). Dynamic IPs from everywhere. Seriously everywhere. I once got an IP from Ghana

I think our OP may have to try to get the issue passed up the chain to level 2 support. While with VF on one occasion I had an IP that had me showing as in Belfast, and yes while I had that IP, I could watch RTE! I also managed an IP address that some of the databases logged as being in Bangalore, it must have taken me 30 minutes to figure out the weird adverts and pricing in Rupees!

Thanks for both replies. @CrimsonLiar I have tried getting to speak with someone higher up the chain but no success. Can you advise how I'd get in touch with level 2 support? Should I raise a complaint through the online portal?

Having had a dynamic IP at the time, things returned to "normal" when I rebooted the router.

I have a static IP. I tried for weeks to get info from VF about which databases they use and never got that info. They’re not interested in geo location.
I wanted to know if having the correct location would affect routing. I contacted all the databases with my IP and correct location. Some update the same day and some took a month.
The best bit? It makes sod all difference to routing.
For the OPs situation it’s an option though.

Hi @prs1000 thanks for your reply. Yes Vodafone don't seem to care and I am considering making a complaint but from past experience I don't think that would resolve the issue either.
I have noticed that checking my IP address against various databases most show incorrect location of Scotland and England, only one shows correct location of Northern Ireland. I don't understand how the same IP address can have such varied locations.
Might you advise what databases you contacted and how you updated the info, do you have to register with them? I have tried to find out if rte.ie use a specific database as this site is the main problem and if I could update it, that would probably work.

You don’t have to register with any of them.
They vary as to how to contact them but mostly either an email or filling in a contact or support form on their website.
A Google search for “IP geolocation” brings most of them up
Geolocation.com
Whatismyipaddress
Maxmind.com
Iplocation.io
AbstractAPI.com
BigdataCloud
Iplocation.net
Geotargetly
IP2LOCATION
IPInfo.io
DB-IP
IPRegistry .co
IPGeolocation.io
IPapi
Ipdata.co
Neustar
KeyCDN

Hi @prs1000 thanks for your reply.
Having contacted rte I think they use maxmind for their geo-locatiion info so perhaps if I update that one it will work. I will look into this further and thanks for your suggestion and list of databases.
