Repeated broadband dropouts!

I recently switched to Vodafone Superfast 100 broadband but I am experiencing repeated brief dropouts (maybe up to 30 seconds). Symptoms include

  • Teams calls pop up messages about "Bad network quality", sound can fail or I can be disconnected
  • Attempts to access any web page are slow or fail with errors "This site can't be reached" and DNS_PROBE_STARTED or if the dropout goes on for a while DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET
  • For the longer dropouts the network icon in the Windows taskbar will switch to the "no internet" symbol

Moving the laptop closer to the router seems to mitigate the problem but not fix it entirely.

Here is an extract from the logs:

I tried contacting Vodafone but they have not been all that helpful - today they claimed there were no dropouts since Tuesday morning which you can see from the logs is incorrect.

Rebooting the router has not helped but would a factory reset be any use? How can I tell whether I have the latest firmware (logging into my router and attempting a firmware update gave a "firmware update failed" error message.

Strange as your problem sound very similar to one posted a week ago, and they are also on FTTP.

Broadband dropping out frequently for 20-30 second... - Community home (vodafone.co.uk)

There would be no harm trying a factory reset. I'm not sure if the same firmware level is used on FTTP as FTTC (although I can't imagine it will be different) but mine is 19.4.0551-3269082 and I believe it to be the latest.

The routers always say the firmware upgrade has failed when you try to check for a new one.

Did you have any luck getting this resolved? I have the same thing happening both with my wireless work laptop and my cabled Xbox.

The problems got better but were never completely fixed. I will try the suggestion of disabling IPv6.

Looking at the logs of the original post, if you are having the same issues:

In your network adapter properties uncheck the IPv6 box.
