THG3000 router firmware out of date

Spies
4: Newbie

My router is currently on firmware version 19.2.0307-3261013

I'm having problems with cloud streaming on the Xbox and I wanted to eliminate the firmware as being at fault as it's quite a long way behind the latest release.

Doing a manual update check fails after 5 minutes, is there any way you can push the newer firmware to my router?

I presume you are aware you will need to get your PPPoE credentials from Vodafone. Live chat is usually easiest.

What are you intending to do about the phone connection, or do you not intend using that?

Yep, I read / scanned the forum here before deciding to switch to VF, I’m keeping my current FTTC with old provider until VF is all working, then once happy, will be cancelling old provider, removing the THG3000 and connecting the ONT to my UniFi equipment (may have a play with load balancing whilst I have both FTTC & FTTP installed… probably asking for trouble though, I’ve planned the switch to FTTP expecting there to be problems, secretly hoping to be pleasantly surprised! 🤔)

We haven’t used our home phone for years, however I do have an old Polycom IP phone which I may have a play around with to see if I can get it connected, more for learning about SIP than actually needing it to work 🙂 i’ll start with the info in the thread here and see how far I get 😀

"20211126144629"

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but for those who missed it

2021 = 2021

11 = November

26 = 26th

144659 =14:46:29

So that particular firmware was compiled at 14:46:29 on 26th November 2021.

I doubt they'd compile another 30 seconds later so clearly a typo.

If anyone’s still interested, I tried doing a factory reset to my THG3000 about a week ago and found that it did update from version 19.4.0551-3261103-20211126144629-.

The new version is 19.4.0551-3261126-20230609162902-

I’ve not looked very hard to find what changes there might be from the old version – the main change I noticed was that the new version wasn’t compatible with my saved configurations so had to set it up again the hard way.

Much appreciated. I’ve just done a reset and got the new firmware. The built in check failed as per usual obviously….

I don't see much change tbh, so it's likely just security updates. What gets me though is why they waited 2 months to push this one out.

Bizarrely, the 1st time I opened the WiFi settings page it had many advanced settings for selecting compatibility and WiFi channel selection etc. After I configured it and hit apply it reverted to the basic page with no option to change channel again despite being in 'expert' mode 😔

It's normal to have access to a lot more settings with a freshly reset router, and to also make changes to those settings before the router is connected to the internet and those settings get locked. Sometimes those settings would even stay active after provisioning. Handy if you want to manually set wifi channels and such.

I've just updated mine, and the first thing I've noticed is my 8 character Wi-Fi password now has to be 12 characters.

Bloody annoying.

Ha! The app still lets me set an 8 character Wi-Fi password, thank god I don't have to reconnect all my devices.

I've just reset on advice from Vodafone as I was getting thousands of "Network not reachable" errors, and they've pushed the same version to me. Fingers crossed it'll make the thing more stable because so far it's been decidedly average all the way to unbearable, even with two boosters.

The only change I've noticed since doing it is my average speed dropping from 68mbps down to 45mpbs down... !!
