I had a text from Vodafone: ‘your broadband contract will expire on 12th August, if you want to renew text RENEW to (number)”
So I texted RENEW to the number and got a text back saying: ‘it’s great to have you on board, your order number is blah blah blah’, your new contract will arrive soon.
I thought that was that. Next day had a phone call from Vodafone:
VF: ‘we can’t renew your contract’
Me: why not?
VF: because you are on copper
Me: so?
VF: we can only renew if you are on fibre.
Me: then please put me on fibre
VF: we can’t
Me: why not?
VF: we have checked and it is not available
Me: why not?
VF: it’s just not available
Me: so what is going to happen?
VF: your contract will end and you will stay on copper
Me: OK so no different to now?
VF: well yes but the price will go up
Me: why?
VF: because you will be out of contract
Me: so give me a new contract
VF: we can’t we only do contracts for fibre
Me: so I won’t have a contract and the price is going up but the service remains the same?
VF: yes
Me: how much will it go up by?
VF: we don’t know
Me: what do you mean you don’t know?
VF: we can’t tell you, you will find out when you get your next bill.
Call ended.
Is it me or is that pretty damn unreasonable?

I'm now out of contract, if it's the same as me, it will go up by £3.00 plus any discount you may have that will end.
There should be no reason they can't give you a new copper contract, if there is no FTTP available.
Do you know if you are in an FTTP area? https://www.openreach.com/broadband-network/fibre-availability

Thanks for that, the checker says:
Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband - Not yet available
Superfast Fibre Broadband - Available now
Standard Broadband - Available now
So it looks like it should be available, but Vodafone are telling me it isn't.

Unfortunately, Vodafone seem to be unable to get anything right.
There is no good reason you shouldn't be able to renew your current contract (except that if you have a PSTN phone it will probably need to go to VoIP) and if Vodafone won't supply it , my advice would be to use a comparison site to find someone who will.

Other broadband comparison sites are available.
