WFH corporate VPN unable to establish connection or is very slow

Been with Vodafone Broadband fibre for around a year, mostly working fine.  Was working fine yesterday, however, today, no end of problems trying to connect to corporate VPN via the work laptop.

Personal laptop browsing on internet is all fine and fast.

To test, I used my phone's mobile hotspot (TalkMobile which Vodafone backend) and the work laptop was able to connect to the corporate VPN all fine as per normal.  Confirming the issue to the Vodafone Broadband.

Have been on vodafone chat - absolutely useless and also called customer support - he suggested hard reset which would reset SSID and wifi password.

Tried that, that did seem to work, work laptop able to connect to corporate vpn as normal.

When I then changed the SSID and WIFI to the new ones I had chosen, it stops working!

Changed the SSID and WiFi back to factory defaults and the work vpn starts working again.

Can anyone explain what is going on here?  I've wasted the whole day trying to track this down.

Why it suddenly stopped working?

I'm going to have to change broadband provider.

That is remarkable, I really can't see how a VPN connection can be affected by the Wi-Fi SSID and password of your local connection.

Have you tried to see if it is just the SSID name or the password stops the connection, or does it need both to be changed.

Edit: have you tried via the guest network. perhaps just use that on defaults specifically for the work laptop.

Yes, it does seem rather peculiar and was working fine over the past year or so, not sure what has changed to suddenly stop working like thi.

I was just glad it was back up and running.  For now I'm switched on the guest wifi to use the modified SSID/password I was using before, and stuck with the factory defaults on the main.

I haven't had time to try combination of SSID and password to see if that makes a difference.

But Vodafone chat was truly abysmal.  Vodafone telephone support, they did suggest hardware reset, but could not offer any explanation as to why changing SSID would stop corporate VPN from working.

I'm not surprised they couldn't explain it, neither can I.😃
