WIFI CHANNEL CHANGE

maughanorama
4: Newbie

hey all

is there some magical invisible page on the new router that allows me to change the 2.4/5ghz channels ? the auto channel function just isnt working.

and before anyone says look here and there and posts a link to the app. i have tried the app and im unable to even sync the app with my router..

is there a config editor that can open the backed up config so i can change it there and upload it back ?

why has this function been removed from the firmware ? make 0 sense

my internet is perfect until i try to use a 2.4ghz device then its hampered by my neighbors devices. theres a free channel i can see but unable to change to it

thanks

Assuming you are on FTTC, it's better not to cancel, just let the gaining ISP do it, otherwise you risk downtime.

Thanks. I risk downtime simply by moving isp!

I had a look at some likely replacements, but they don't give any options for start dates and I don't want to be paying for two broadband accounts.

That's one reason for letting the gaining ISP do it. Your existing service is not terminated until the new one starts.

They can't give definite dates, until Openreach have confirmed their availability, and at the moment Openreach change the date with minimum notice.

Thanks for the tip, but the priority is not to pay for two accounts, especially since Vodafone will hike the price once I'm out of contract.
And, as I said, I have never moved from one ISP to another without some downtime.

You probably wouldn't. If the new ISP takes over after the Vodafone contract finishes Vodafone will probably charge pro-rata for the extra days, and if the new one takes over before the Vodafone contract finishes, no problem as you pay Vodafone for the broadband in advance.

Either way no downtime (except for possibly a couple hours whilst Openreach do their bit).

I believe they are not allowed to increase your monthly charges if have started the moving process.

The switching process is governed by Ofcom rules.

Switching broadband provider - Ofcom

Have you decided on who you are going to? I was going to move to Now broadband as they had anytime calls included, but they dropped that just a week before I was going to sign up.

Do Vodafone reps ever check these discussion threads?

Here we are, talking about leaving Vodafone due to our varied experiences of poor service, poor customer service, failure to effectively engage when we have technical problems etc.

I spent a couple of hours trying to find out about how Vodafone would deliver FTTP (seeing as the OpenReach engineers had just finished laying the ducting to all the houses here) and I couldn't get a straight answer about the fibre termination unit or how a traditional phone would physically connect (if I wanted to keep one) if the fibre were to be brought into a different place in the property from the copper (which looks likely).

Too much wasted time - and too many impertinent questions about how many people live in the house and what I might want to use the broadband service for - questions that were irrelevant as I'd already decided I wanted FTTP speeds.

The scheduling of my switchover was a breeze.  On the day of placing the order, I got to choose any date from around 10 days out - whatever suited me.

I've received copious information, videos etc. of what to expect on the day the fibre is delivered into my house. Several confirmation message to reassure me that the date was still good etc.

Some Vodafone reps would do well to experience the switchover process (rather than just continue, no doubt, to enjoy staff discount).

The short answer is no.
I'm not an economist, so I don't understand why customer service that is so poor that customers leave as soon as they can is a viable operating process.

I'm going with Now.  Even without the free Anytime calls it's cheaper than my current Vodafone package and of course I will hopefully be able to change wifi channel on the router.

I would love to go to fttp but the cost is too high at the moment, in addition to the extra cost to keep a landline. (I'm an old guy. I prefer a landline). When fttp has settled then I'll port the landline number to the cloud and go full monty, but for now, it's Now's fttc offering. It's only a 12 month contract anyaway.

If you haven't signed up yet, there is up to £90 cashback available via Quidco. I won't put a link as that will probably be frowned upon.

Their router is pretty awful (only 2 ethernet ports and crap Wi-Fi), so you might want to consider having to replace it.

If you have FTTP available, with Vodafone the price is the same, unless you go for the higher speeds.

I'm also an old bloke, and that was why I was going to Now, to get the inclusive anytime calls.

But Vodafone have thrown them in for free, and I'm now paying less than a new customer. It just takes a bit of negotiation.

When I switch (regularly because ISPs dont care at all, the proof is this thread itself), I usually search for offers with discounts/vouchers OR with Quidco that has the equivalent discount 99% of the times.

Before switching to Vodafone I was with TT. I don't know now, but before they had 3 pros:

1) Forum with not only user, with TT staff that reply/test/help

2) A nice router (a bit smaller than vodafone hub) and the wifi channel can be manually set (I've used it for 18 months).

3) No annoying 2 factors authentication to login (and I've just checked it is still this way)

I've never had Now, but if the total contract cost adding vouchers is the same, I'd go with TT again.
What I'll never buy is Virgin, even though it's now here with FTTP and no much difference in price... because they are not part of openreach and it's more difficult to switch and it's more like a trap when you have to switch again. I'll wait for the Openreach fttp (to say the truth my current line runs at 41/16 speed and it's quite a decent speed... no true reason for an FTTP).
