I am starting to install THREAD MATTER smart home devices in my home on Google Home but They won't install, some say you need ipv6 but the THG3000 does not have ipv6, is there another Vodafone router that does or coming soon?  or can I replace the router with a third-party one that does have ipv6?  I'm on Full Fibre 2 but also with phone, an analogy phone plugged in the back of the router.

Moderators watch this one.

Thread devices work fine with IPv4.

Yup Thread and Matter were working fine on the couple of devices I already had when I only had IPv4.

Assuming the query is genuine, it's the Vodafone network that doesn't have IPv6, not the router.

It's genuine question! Really that's very strange of Vodafone, especially since the industry has been trying to move to IPV6 for years.

Which industry? So many ISPs are IPv4 only and tbf there still really is no urgent need for IPv6 yet. I've no desire to open all my devices to the internet.

@Ripshod

Do you have a list of those who do and who don't?

I really thought it was just Vodafone who didn't, out of the large ISP's.

Virgin Media, Talk Talk, Plusnet, for starters.

PlusNet, is a real surprise as they are BT, and they do. Do you know if EE (another BT ISP) do?

I suppose I could Google it, but I'm feeling lazy.

So normally a thread border router (the hub) should still work if it's connected to an IPv4 LAN and WAN.  That's what happened here before I moved to BT.  Looking at it now, it seems that it is just acting as a bridge with IPv6 pass through.  Turn IPv6 off on the router and reboot the hub, and the hub happily uses a single IPv4 address.

*All slightly awkward as the Thread Border Router I'm using is pre-release so I can't really post any screenshots or give too much detail, though the regulars here can probably guess the brand!

*It could be a badly behaved Thread Border Router!
