On CityFibre 900 and speeds are near unusable. Switched to the mobile dongle and they were even worse.

What is going on?

How close are you to Edinburgh? That's your gateway - your connection to the internet spine starts there. You're not even in Scotland, are you?

@RipshodJellyman said he's in Aberdeen which is about 130 north of Edinburgh so he's certainly in Scotland.

I'm in Edinburgh and i'm seeing very similar speeds, oddly only on an ethernet (LAN) connection though  and only on the download side, upload speed is still mid to high 800Mbps.

Wireless speeds appear to be unaffected unless i change the server setting in Speedtest to Vodafone UK Edinburgh, the download speed drops through the floor when i do that but again the upload remains as it should.
I have no idea why it would only be an issue for a LAN port connection and not a wireless one, i also don't understand why it only effects download and not upload speeds but there's definitely a problem.

Slow enough that this forum is struggling to load... Opened a ticket, again, via myaccount.vodafone.co.uk/bbcheck

tracert to bbc.com hitting 84.65.0.1 as first hop outside my network.

I'm in Aberdeen too and on Vodafone's 900Mbs.
Over the past few days (since Tuesday 13 August 2024)  I've been getting download speeds in the single digits, 3-6Mbps. I've been using Thinkbroadband's "Broadband Quality Monitor" and it show 20% packet loss at the times the speed drops, the time of day it happens is consistently between 6pm and midnight - odd.  I've reported this fault and Vodafone say it's a CityFibre line fault and that is could take weeks or months to fix - UNACCEPTABLE. Get it fixed Vodafone or give me a refund and let me leave my contract without penalty. I hope Vodafone get this fixed soon. I will keep my social media feeds updated to let everyone know how Vodafone resolve this fault, if they fix it soon I will be happy and tell everyone that I am happy with Vodafone's fix.
To give Vodafone credit they have been calling me back and keeping me updated on the fault, there customer service has been good, but it needs fixing in the next few days rather than the next few weeks. Vodafone asked me to use the router's Tracing Tool and email the results to them, awaiting a reply from that. I've yet to try the mobile dongle at these slow speed times to see if that improves things.

NOTE: This is not the first time this has happened, the last time was several week ago and it got sorted quickly; don't know if this is the same fault recurring. BTW Latency has always been over 20ms and on FTTP this should be less than 10ms.

@dfunky we've already established in another thread that your gateway (84.65.0.1).

I'm waiting for a traceroute from @jellyman  (copy/paste not image if they want a response before Monday), so we can see what's happening for them.

Doesn't matter how many threads you crash in on, you won't find an answer any quicker @dfunky

My issue was resolved for a while and has recently reappeared. Hence looking for threads to contribute to. No point in ##~##-ing an older thread, I'll just "crash" in on this one...

Apparently a common term for re-opening old threads is removed by a spam filter. Starts with n and ends in ecro.
