Low performance device

I am new to Vodafone and trying to improve the WiFi performance of my connected devices. In the app I see that, under Wi-Fi Performance, most devices are rated as Low Performance, including my new top-of-the-range laptop. I've looked in Windows Wi-Fi settings and in the Vodafone help, but I can't see a way of increasing this, either from the device end or the Vodafone app/router end. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

@katieb829  Please try the following.

Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > select your adapter

Then a pop-up appears and select the Advanced tab and in the property list look at:

Speed & Duplex: should be on "auto negotiation", if it already is then try one of the alternatve speeds

Power Saving Mode: try "off" setting

 

Please let us know the type/model of the device(s) with the problem.

Thank you for your reply. I don't see Speed and Duplex on the Advanced tab, as I hope you can see from the screenshot I've pasted in. This also shows the type of wi-fi adapter in my PC, which is Windows 11.

I work with Lightrooom, with pictures in Dropbox in the cloud, and having changed to Vodafone it seems appallingly slow at moving pictures. I'm trying to understand what is going on and where the problem lies.

@katieb829   Thanks for the picture. Is the Dynamic MIMO Power Save on or off? That could be worth testing.

Have you checked that you are connected to the router on 5GHz (or 6GHz if possible) and not 2.4GHz?

Perhaps it's worth doing a speed test from the device too, speedtest.net will do.

I can't see that setting in my app, perhaps because I've got the THG3000 router.

I wonder if by performance it doesn't mean what you think it does. Could it be a measure of how much data it is using, rather than capability?

@Jayach I'm begining to also wonder about distance between device and router, and are there any thick walls in the way. Let's see if the speedtest shows anything.

Which router do you have? Is it the new Wi-Fi 6 Ultra router?

My router says Model no. THG3000.

The hub is on the first floor at the front of the house. I like to work in the kitchen, on the ground floor. I have installed a wi-fi extender on the ground floor at the front of the house.

When my laptop is plugged into the hub with an ethernet cable I'm getting the following:

I have had very different results for the wi-fi speedtests and I can't see what makes the difference. I have run them downstairs in the kitchen, upstairs next to the hub, and with and without the extender. Now I'm getting this sort of result at all places, both with and without the extender switched on:

However when I first started doing the tests I was getting the following at all locations, except right next to the hub:

The app wasn't working very well and wasn't showing my laptop; now it is showing it and as a high performance device. Perhaps the difference is because of that rather than the wi-fi! I have no idea why my laptop has changed to high performance; I haven't changed anything.

I hope this isn't too confusing. Many thanks in advance for your interest and help.

@katieb829  While waiting for the remaining image to be moderated, it could (and I am guessing here) just be that your router has got some update from Vodafone or as it appears you are on FTTC (copper wire to the house) the line may have settled down after its initial connection. How long is it since your service went live?

It went live on 22 March, so a while now.
