Power line adapter throttled since joining Vodafone broadban

Hi folks

I recently joined Vodafone broadband. It has been relatively plain sailing other than my power line adapter (TPlink AV600) to my office desk dropping to around 8Mbps, where with Now Broadband (previous ISP) I was getting close to max possible speed of 55-60Mbps.
I have spoken with a Vodafone adviser via chat and they’re not interested, telling me it’s probably just a hardware issue. It’s very frustrating as it’s clearly the new router/provider.
I’ve tried a few things, including testing the router direct to my laptop via Ethernet, which sees best possible speeds. But that’s not possible from the router to my office desk across two floors.
Any help would be greatly received!

If the speeds are correct at the ethernet port on the router, but are slow when they get to the other end of the power line adapter, there has to be something wrong with the PL adapter/wiring.

If the PL is either one with a mains pass-through or very close (e.g. twin socket or extension block) to the router PSU it could be interference from the router PSU. If you have two wired devices you could do a point-to-point connection without the router and check the PL speed. Alternatively run a long extension to the router PSU mains plug so it's not on the same span as the PL.

I've been using PL for years and in my property I've seen a 300Mbps difference between two sockets in the same room!

Thanks for your reply. I'll give that a go and hope that it's the PSU of the new router.

I forgot to mention in my original post that my upload speeds are as strong as they ever have been (at least twice that of download speeds) if that piece of info is in any way useful?

Try a different ethernet cable between the router and the adjacent PL and try different LAN ports on the router too. Any of those are always another possibility. I've never seen a PL throttled by a router.

Given the speeds you noted at the top,  you're on FTTC, so try the URL below and just check that all is well in the BT cabinet.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure that explains why it was working before and not now though? As in I literally changed nothing about the setup other than changing the router the PL ethernet cable went into. Admittedly I don't know that I've entirely ruled out the chance of coincidence, but it feels far too obvious to me to be the router somehow throttling the PL or some other problem.

Sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your power line adapter speed dropping after switching to Vodafone broadband. Since you've already tested the router directly to your laptop with no issues, it's likely not a problem with the router itself. Have you tried troubleshooting the power line adapter setup? Sometimes interference from other devices or electrical wiring can affect the performance. You could also try updating the firmware on your power line adapter or adjusting the settings to optimize performance.

@jack5253 PL devices are plug and play, the only setup is whether they have a sleep mode or a QoS setting. Perhaps a different A.I. script generator is needed?
