Slow full fibre to the house

Hi had full fibre to the house since April never got anywhere near the 250 download and up load speeds, at one point i did a speed test and the upload was higher than the download. Main problem is the signal through out the house, had numerous talks with Voda they insist all is ok i keep telling them the router is in the wrong place. Who would i get to move it if anyone knows. Thanks

Have you done a speed test over Ethernet?

As for who will move your ONT, it will depend on if you are on Openreach or CityFibre.

As it's full fibre. did they not give an option of where the ONT was positioned when it was installed?

Hi thanks for the reply sorry been bit late with a reply.

Open reach  did the install, i queried with the installer wether the router was in a good place, he replied that with the full fibre it would be fine all over the house. It has never been any good, the router is in the lounge behind a sofa, before it was in the hall, we had fibre o the box then cable to the house and was far better than what i have now.

I have spent far to long on the phone and get no where.

I take it you're with Cityfibre. Black ONT on the wall? I also take it you've ordered 500 Mb with the 250 speed guarantee?

How are you connecting to the router for the speed tests and what software/site?

Try the speedtest here:

Hi thanks for the reply sorry bit late with reply to you.

The install was via Open Reach white box on wall i queried the position of router installer said would be ok all over house previously we had fibre to box then cable to house router was in the hall, now router is in the longe behind a sofa connection continually drops out.

Were you with Vodafone on FTTC, with the same model router?

The Openreach engineer advised you badly, behind a sofa is a terrible place for the router to be. If you could just get it mounted higher it would help.

So my ONT is in the living room.  I've then an ethernet cable running to the router placed as far forward as possible on 6ft tall deep bookshelf roughly halfway into the house.  It's not ideal, but my other plan of having a (non-WiFi) router and separate ceiling-mounted Access Point, drew a stare that suggested I'd be sleeping in the garage from now on!
