how can i increase my internet speed?

notsuperfast
4: Newbie
Hey, I have opted for the 80/20 service (superfast2) but am not recieveing anything close to it, I have heard that the SNR can effect the speed and the valued seem pretty high. Would there be anything for me to do to decrease this. I am ongoing a complaint case and Jackie from the Directors Office is dealing with it, but wondering what I can do within the meantime. I suggested to her about installing a new copper line free of charge, but have not had a response yet.

Please can someone explain to me what all of this information means and how it effects my internet speed / what the optimum values should be (I would like to understand what is going on) and sorry for the inconvenience in advance.

There is no figure for an optimum SNR, the optimum is the lowest your router and the cabinet can negotiate, whilst still keeping the line stable.

It usually starts at about 6.4 and, if the line conditions allow, reduce as much as it can over time.

My downstream SNR is 4.4 and DLM adjusted it to that, so I get the max sync. The upstream is 10.3, because I'm already at the max speed for that,

It does sound like your line is the problem, but Openreach are loathe to spend money fixing copper lines, when they will all be redundant in a few years.

Any idea when you will get full fibre?

@Jayach

my area does not have any colour on it, i have registered my interest a couple years ago now (and had others do the same)

I assume if they have no plans for Full Fibre they will be more lenient to installing a new one?

You get over the average speed and upload speed, however I get below my MINIMUM speed, lol.

How long is your line? Have you had yours replaced at all? How old is your line? What would be your best advice for me currently?

I imagine my line has been here for a good few years. I've been here 11 years, and it's not been touched during that time. It's overhead via poles, so if it does need work, it will be pretty easy and cheap to do.

Google maps says I'm 240 metres from my cabinet.

What would I do? I'd get Vodafone to send another Openreach engineer and if he/she says it the best your line can do, point out that it is below the "handback" figure on their own website.

Good luck.

What was the minimum guaranteed speed you were given?

You're struggling already and things will only get worse if this doesn't get sorted so looking for a way out for you. Start looking around now for fttp in your area (no point staying with fttc if your copper's failing)

My min speed provided was 50mbps (which I have never gotten)

I have got an engineer coming tomorrow. Is there anything that I should ask that will get openreach to fix this once and for all?

Offer tea/coffee then ask him if he'd be happy in the same situation.

If they say there is nothing they can do, ask that they escalate it to their manager.

There must be some complaints procedure in Openreach.

The good news is if your contract says min speed provided is 50mbps then the engineer should try to get you 50MB or more download. However are you sure, Your post above says Vodafone minimum guaranteed speed of 40MB. and your pic of the broadband checker seems to say a minimum of 32.4

what speed does your next door get, you can check here .put your next door address in and look at the observed speedS and date
