24-month contract coming to an end, the renewal cannot keep the landline number

2 years ago engineers came to the house to install full fibre in the house. My contract Full Fibre 2 is coming to an end. I was just renewing the 24-month contract but I was told by the agents I cannot keep my old landline number and will be assigned a new number if I renew my contract. I find it very strange that I cannot retain my landline number especially since I am staying with the same provider. Does anyone know the reason why I cannot retain the number?

Once again, it makes no sense what you are being told.

BT/Openreach have no control over VoIP communication (AFAIK).

You number would originally have been on the PSTN (public switch telephone network) which is BT/Openreach, but would have been ported to Vodafone's VoIP service when you went to digital voice.

And Sky and Vodafone should be able to speak to Openreach directly, it's only us mere mortals who can't.

Annoying though it is, I think you may just have to accept that "the powers that be" just don't want you to keep you number. 😠

I would try raising a complaint, not sure it will help, but they may at least give a reasonable explanation.

That does not make any sense at all. If you are on FTTP, your phone is already VoIP and being provided by Vodafone.

I suspect they are wrong, so I would call again and ask for confirmation.

If you do get given a reason, please let us know.

For the last 2 years, my landline has used the router port to have phone access. I spoke to 2 agents one by live chat yesterday and one by phone today both said cannot, but I will try again tomorrow. I also think it is very odd as I am not leaving the provider, that is why I think I should be able to retain the number.

The agent called me today and I asked for an explanation why I cannot retain the number. The agent asked the switch team, but they were also unsure.

They said to either
1) renew the contract and get a new number
2) switch it to another provider to see if they can keep the number
3) start 30-day rolling contract and keep the number but the cost can vary a lot

Sorry, but that is crackers. It makes no sense at all,

Not your fault, but I honestly don't understand why you can't keep your (already VoIP) number.

How on earth can a new provider keep the number, if the current supplier can't.

Open reach is withholding my VoIP landline, according to vodafone and sky. No reason given, as they cannot speak directly to openreach over this concern
