Broadband super wifi

I’ve just recently set up my hub and connected my landline etc, all ok so far just two bars on my signal on my phone/ipad etc, but I live in a townhouse so I have a landline socket in the kitchen on the ground floor, everything is set up on the 1st floor broadband wise etc. but as I’m disabled I used a stairlift so now I have no landline on the ground floor in the kitchen, do I need to buy a router so I can put the landline into it, I chatted on line today and was told I have to buy an extra router, was never told this before this was all planned, do you think it’s worth ringing Vodafone explaining my situation of no landline on the ground floor now, it’s a new build so I have sockets on every floor, but my main use ones was the kitchen and living room. I’ve also got the booster behind my front door but that doesn’t work and I can no longer get any signal down in the kitchen to a phone/tablet etc. can anyone advise or help. Thanks.

That was true until recently, but new FTTC connection are using "digital voice" (i.e. VoIP),

We first need to confirm if @Alisbeanie is on FTTC (it sounds like they are), and then see if their master socket is currently in the kitchen.

@Alisbeanie, if you are on FTTC, it's only possible to have one router connected, (actually that is true if you are on FTTP as well)

We need to understand just what service you are on, and just what problem you believe you have,

You have labelled this thread "Broadband super wifi", but you appear to be querying the landline.

Are you on FTTC (router connected to phone socket)? and if so, where is your master socket.

Sorry I am new to this sorry I’ve posted it on the wrong thread. Router is connected the the phone line, the master socket has the old booster attached to it if that make sense 😵💫

So you've had some bad advice already.

If your broadband is supplied down the phone line then your phone extensions should still be working though you'd either need the latest filtering faceplate on the master socket or a filter on each phone socket.

That the downstairs socket isnt working suggests to me that your broadband is "full-fibre".  If that's the case and you have a phone plugged into the router, then if that phone has a DECT base station you'd just need to get some additional handsets you can pair with the base station and being on Pro II broadband maybe get Vodafone to send you an extra extender.

The alternative for the phones at least would be to have the phone extension lines removed from the master socket and plugged into the router (you'd need a plug fitting on the extension cable).  But that is still not going to improve your downstairs WiFi signal.

Update us and the regulars here should be able to get you on track with as few false starts as possible!

Thank you. I will ring Vodafone and see if they will send out an extra extender. It’s full fibre too. I’ll update once I’ve spoken to someone, thanks again.

Hi thanks for your reply, tried ringing Vodafone but told to do a live chat, which I did. From what I’m told I would need the kitchen phone put in to the back of the router upstairs in the living room (town house) with an extra long wire to go into the kitchen from upstairs so I could receive/make calls on the landline in the kitchen, so basically I’m without a landline in the kitchen now. As the staircase is an awkward shape and I’m told it would be quite expensive to have this massive long wire fitted and put downstairs, if I’d known about this I would never of went with the current plan I’m with now for 18 months. Thank you again.

Is the kitchen BT/Openreach phone socket the master or is it the upstairs one where the router is?

If you are using the router in the master socket, it is possible to use the existing telephone wiring to run the extensions, but that will not be possible if the router is on an extension socket.

The best solution (in my opinion) is to use DECT phones with the base unit connected to the router, and then the extensions can be placed wherever you like. (bearing in mind, they will need a mains socket)

@Jayach it’s a BT/openreach phone socket. I already have a DECT phone that is in the kitchen. Yeah I understand what you mean thanks. When I was talking on live chat yesterday they said I would need another router for in the kitchen, then someone on my thread said about an extender. I’ve asked about all this on live chat this morning, nothing said about an extender, just using an extra long wire fitted from the upstairs living room down into the kitchen, it’s a new build house so the living room and bedrooms are up above the kitchen which is on ground floor if that makes sense, I appreciate your help, thanks.
