Porting a landline number

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi There,

I would like my old VM landline number registered at my old address to be ported to my Vodafone connection.

I tried to raise this with a CS representative after my phone line was activated and they advised that I should be able to raise this and get this ported after cooling off period of 14 days.

Can someone help to verify this and complete this process?

Hi

VM should be the ones involved as the number is on their system.

When you cancel with VM you should tell them about the new arrangement and you want to port your number.

Then with the new provider give your telephone number and insist it is ported over.

Having any kind of break between the 2 could mean the number is LOST.

I have an active line that I am still paying for until 11 Nov with VM so it should not be a problem

The landline number porting saga continues!

I called a CS representative on 9 Nov and spoke to Nathan from EasySwitch team who recommended that I should contact VM and cancel the landline with them as my landline number was not from an Openreach provider. Then after 2 weeks of cooling-off period, Vodafone would be able to raise a request to get the number ported. However, this did not happen.
So in order to get this sorted, I spoke to another CS representative Hoda on 8 Dec who confirmed that he has put the request through and the number should be posted within 5 working days and Vodafone will get in touch if there are any problems. However, nobody bothered calling me back with an update.  He told me that I should have not disconnected the VM landline as the only way the number could be ported is only if the landline is active. This advice was completely opposite to what I was told in November.

I am sick and tired of dealing with the contrasting advice given by Vodafone representatives from relevant teams esp when they are "specialists" and are meant to know the procedures.

All this conflicting advice with the initial "you can port landline number after 14-days cooling off period" seems like a Vodafone binding customers to stay in contracts when they clearly know they cannot port numbers from certain providers such as Virgin Media.

Such a shame that I have to deal with such CS service. I may have to look into my rights and may have to bring this to CISAS.

Hi @Anonymous, it sounds like you have tried everything with your landline. If you send us a message on Twitter or Facebook, our broadband team will able to check out what's happened so far and what needs to be done going forward with the number. You find all the details here, if you can also include your Community username, that will be great.
