If ordering Full Fibre (in a Cityfibre area), I get the option to either "Get a new landline number" or "Keep my current landline number". My current provision is on OpenReach FTTP via TalkTalk with separate copper PSTN landline (for my alarm). If I choose to keep my landline, I understand that Vodafone will organise the cease and port of my landline number.
However, to ensure continuity of service in the case of issues, I'd like to order but not have the cease and port done automatically, and choose to do this once the Vodafone connection is verified as operational. To do this, I'll need to select "Get a new landline number", but then the website tells me "you’ll lose your current number on your existing line and won’t be able to recover it later".
Can anyone explain: -
Porting a number from one set of infrastructure to another is common practice in Mobile world (e.g. PAC code etc) - so is the same principle available moving from PSTN to VOIP?
Thanks

As you are moving to a different network supplier (CityFibre instead of Openreach) there is no reason you can't keep the old service running. Just be sure not to mention your current number and ISP and even Vodafone shouldn't be able to muck it up.
Edit: Having both PSTN and FTTP with TalkTalk is a bit unusual, however sort that out after you have the CityFibre connection working.

No you would not be able to port your number to Vodafone later, you could however port it to another VoIP supplier.
