I was promised to keep my landline number when I was making contract with agent over the phone. however, the number has changed and it’s a deal breaker for me. They would not let me change it even when I called them. One of the agents said that there is only 1% chance that I would get my old number back???? I didnt even understand what he wanted to say tho.. there really isn’t anyway to change my number?? Because I need it back….

All you could really chase them for is breach of contract regards telling you it could be kept and then not doing that. You are going to get the argument from most UK telcos that they own the number and it's in their T&Cs to change it if they need to (oddly I can't remember seeing such robust language in the VF T&Cs.
To have any chance of getting the number back you need to act quickly, and personally, if I really needed to do this, I look to moving it to a VOIP service.
So breach of contract, and OFCOM are your best bets!
