Just when you thought that you'd got TPS sorted out comes this little "gift".

Quote from here https://www.theregister.com/2023/02/13/european_carrier_adtech_jv_approved/

The European Commission last Friday approved formation of the joint venture between
Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, and Vodafone Group – which together boast
hundreds of millions of subscribers. It will create an opt-in platform that lets
individual submit their phone numbers "to activate communications from brands via
publishers."

We get enough spam in our inboxes, and now the phone.

In a world saturated with digital ads, four of Europe's mightiest telcos will soon ask citizens
if they're willing to volunteer their phone numbers to a startup that promises to deliver
targeted ads while also observing European privacy regulations.

So what happens if we don't opt in? Do we get untargeted ads? I'm out. It's a shame but I don't want ANY unsolicited calls.

We're out of the EU now - stop it!! I want to see an official statement from Vodafone UK stating the uk zone won't be involved.

Interesting article, but who on earth will sign up to MORE adverts, I do everything possible to avoid the current ones.

As @Ripshod says how long before it becomes compulsory.
