Solution

4G mobile broadband Strict Nat

Hello was wondering if someone would be able to help.

have recently purchased a 50gb a month mobile broadband package and am looking to use it for my Xbox one among other things. However, when connecting it seems I have a Strict NAT type meaning that joining/hosting games is pretty much impossible at times. Is there anyway of obtaining a public IP address or another workaround to enable me to open up my NAT type? I also have a Tp link MR200 router.

thanks

Hi @Dom_Stevens I've had a look online for you and found this link. Let us know if this helps you out at all.

hi Adam,

unfortunately that hat hasn’t been of much help and am still seeing strict Nat. Loving the service provided so far but just faulting on this one thing, is there another way around this to solve my issue? I think I need a public IP address but don’t think that these are given out by Vodafone other than to business accounts

@Dom_Stevens I remember that this did get sent off for specialist support back late last year, after a lot of digging I've managed to locate the thread in question!

I can't be 100% sure if it'll work but please do give it a go and let us know how you get on 😊

Their is sadly no way around it buddy. I game on 4G too, its not too bad, but try to avoid early morning gaming haha. Same with all other networks too, 3 used to offer a static ip, but not anymore.

This is an old topic but i thought id post anyway since there is a solution, i game on the pc using a hotspot and this causes issues due to the strict nat and the way iv found to get around this is to use a vpn, my paid one gives me a moderate nat which is alot better than strict. Not sure if this works for console however as im a PC gamer. But if you cant get a vpn for the console itself you may be able to run the vpn on your phone and then provide the hotspot to the console.

This has been covered many times - port forwarding isn't possible directly on Vodafone network as Vodafone use CGNAT. The easiest solution is to use a tunel. Most VPNs have limited port forwarding support unless you pay a lot of money. Best otion I can find is Andrews and Arnolds L2TP service (not encrypted). Gives you a static IP and port forwarding works fine. However, if using a console you will need to set the tunel up on a router than supports L2TP tunels as consoles can't set up tunels. You would be OK on PC though as that can create a tunel.

Due to CGnat which Vodafone impliments it's hard for the average user to get a less strict NAT type.

Without going through services that use L2TP and other tunneling protocols.

Holy thread resurrection.

Does anyone know if there is any update to this?

Tried UPNP, port forwarding, DMZ.

do I still need to get a VPN?

Hey @Bigady, What device are you struggling to connect with?
