Bug in the network?

Hi, wondering if someone can help.

This evening on 2 occasions my phone rang, upon check who was calling my partner's name and number appeared.

The problem is my partner was sitting right next to me and her phone was next to her each time untouched.

The second time I decided to answer and it cut off.

I'm on Vodafone and they are on Virgin. My call long show 2 calls one missed and one answered, her's don't show any outgoing calls.

The calls appeared to be via the mobile network as circuit switched and not via any OTT apps.

Anyone know why this is or can look into this? I'm concerned that someone may be spoofing. We are also in touch with virgin but as there is interconnection between virgin and Vodafone I'm hoping there is someone at Vodafone who knows enough about this to be able to check if the call actually originated from virgion or not.

Apart from the evening this happened @Kaisza7 has the anomaly happened before ? I'm wondering if this is a glitch however Vodafone can check your account but not via your post here unfortunately as there is no account access.

The avenues are …

Sometimes if a sim card is failing then Vodafone can replace this as a part of the troubleshooting avenue.

A Vodafone Highstreet Store can sim swap ( take some identification )

Customer services can send a Blank Sim Card and you sim swap at home.

simswap.

A further process of elimination to rule out the phone somehow calling the number itself is to either delete the contact from your contacts app and call history and see if this happens again and or put the sim in another mobile phone.

Hi @Kaisza7

Your partner and yourself have right to be concerned about this, there was a thread a couple of months ago here: https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Landline/My-number-being-spoofed-on-spam-scam-calls-to-people-in-the...

and here a few years back https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Pay-monthly/Number-Spoofing/td-p/2600960

Also more on Vodafone Twitter here: https://twitter.com/vodafoneuk/status/1009509184876969985?lang=en

Until the network roll out a number validation feature to show if the call is genuine or coming from a spoofed number there won't anything that can be done to stop these scammers.

Usually, these calls only just for a short time, the fraudster will soon change the number.

Hi AnnS,

Thanks for your reply.
