Low bandwidth mobile data 4G

I live in North Wales

I have a Huawei B535-232 with an external antenna and normally get 20-25 mbps download and upload speeds

Last week there was work affecting the tower I normally connect to. We did get the sms and email from Vodafone about this. Speed dropped to about 5mbps. Over the weekend the service was back to 20/25mbps

From Monday this week, service has been erratic with the usual 5 bars of signal strength of the router dropping to just 1 bar and speed less than 5mbps making video calls impossible.

No mentions of engineering work on the vodafone website

my normal tower is cell id 1446942 , 16141e eNB ID 5652, hex 1614, however today the router is connecting to a tower over twice the distance away and that tower shows a maximum of just 9mbps bandwidth - I'm achieving under 5mbps

the tower i'm connecting to is 1891360 , 1cdc20, enb id 7388 , enb id hex 1cdc

I don't have an option to choose the preferred tower setting on the router - is there a reason why my router is not connecting to the nearest tower with the strongest signal strength ?

thanks

Hey @lr101fc I hope you're doing well. If you perform a manual roam on your phone your SIM will connect you to whichever mast has the least amount of congestion/traffic. If you would like us to look into this in more detail for you to make sure the network and the masts are working as they should be in your area, please do pop the Social Media team a message here

Thanks Steph,

I went to the router settings and selected 4G instead of auto, then Vodafone 4G as the provider (the only one as well that didn't say forbidden next to it) , now it has connected back to the tower nearest me and download is 61mbps and upload 20mbps so a lot better

appreciate the fast reply and the suggestion

Regards

Robin
