No Internet access via WIFI hotspot

I've set up a WIFI hotspot on my phone (a Huawei P9 Plus running Android 7.0). Devices can connect to my phone fine with WIFI, but then they all report there is no Internet access. Internet works fine on my phone. I have a good 4G signal.

I've just been on the phone to technical services for an hour. They talked me through reentering APN details and reset my account but it hasn't helped, which doesn't surprise me.

What can I try next?

@npnicholson - Please change the DNS to the same s Google’s. The IP addresses are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

You’ll need to disable IPv6 on your Windows tablet. Once you’ve done this, please try again.

I'll try this, and it may well work, but it's not a solution as I want to use the WiFi hotspot or Bluetooth tethering with my car and I can't edit DNS addresses on that. The question remains why DNS requests are being refused? Could it be a permissioning issue with my account?

Just throwing it out there.

Possible phone hardware fault.

Like a dodgy batch of wifi chips.

Cracked circuit tracks.

OR

Hauwei have incompatiple coding in firmware.

I wouldnt put that past the manufacturers given its chinese company.

If you're capable you could reset factory firmware or download an older version and install from pc.

I've tried this but the Google DNS server (8.8.8.8) is not accessible. The gateway (192.168.43.1) is pingable, but beyond that I can't access any other IP address. Is 192.168.43.1 the IP address of my phone for the purpose of tethering?

I finally gave in and did a factory reset and my phone is now fine with tethering. The cause of the problem will remain a mystery!

Thanks for updating us @npnicholson, I'm glad to see this is now working for you :smileyhappy:

I may investigate the issue some more. I mentioned that I have the same problem on my other phone and I can see that the APN settings following the the factory reset are much more detailed than before. Perhaps it was those settings which was the problem? I can investigate that on the other phone.

Please let us know how you get on @npnicholson. If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

I had the same issue recently on my P10 and found a forum post somewhere that suggested resetting your APN settings to default. I tried this and it worked for me.

Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile network -> Access Point Name

Hit the ... (dot dot dot) menu in the top right and choose "Reset to default"

I hope this helps other people with this issue.

Jon

That did the job for me.

Thanks

Andy

Thank you so much for this you lot. This has wasted most of my day with this problem trying to do my college work. Stressed me out to the maximum. Thank you very very much. 🙂
