Outgoing calls dropping after 29 minutes and 50 seconds

Hi there,

Since I upgraded my SIM only plan I've been having an issue with outgoing calls dropping at exactly 29 minutes and 50 seconds. There was no problem prior to the upgrade and I haven't changed phone. Does anyone know how to resolve this please? I have spent many, many hours chatting to VF support and tech support and it still remains unsolved. I'm basically paying for a service which I can only use in part. Any advice to resolve this would be most welcome!

Hey @DB2022. It's concerning to hear that you've been experiencing an issue with outgoing calls, we understand how frustrating this must be. So that we can take the necessary steps, please pop over a message to the Social Media team.

Keeping your best interests at heart and to also prevent having to repeat yourself, I would recommend copying the link to this Community thread and popping it into your social media message.

Hello!

1. Have you tried multiple different phone numbers and had the same experience? I run a business phone system and I can set the call to be cut off or diverted to voicemail after a specific amount of time (not that I actually do).

2. Is it a premium number and do you have a spend restriction on your account? Vodafone should be able to advise.

3. Failing that - are there any updates available for your device? It would point to a bug (problem with the phone's software) if this is happening with multiple numbers. I'd also recommend all apps are up to date too.

4. If this is not an apple device, do you have antivirus that is a) up to date b) virus definitions uptodate c) scanned the phone?

5. Failing all of that, I'd say a hardware fault.

Kind Regards,

Beanie.

I'm having the same issue. It seems to be down to the chipset in our phone model, but as most phones don't have the problem it's unlikely a tech solution is coming soon?

Selecting 3g calling on the phone does stop the issue but is annoying, as others have said elsewhere. Sometimes the network routes the call to 3g anyway for it's own reasons.

I've stumbled across a hack that has worked for me without altering settings that compromise performance. At any point during the call put it on Hold.  Just a few seconds is enough. Thereafter the call continues, I've had calls for over an hour. My Xiaomi Poco was enough of a bargain that I can live with this hack. I hope it'll work for your phones too!

Hi @Baysik 👋 We are actively investigating this issue and are currently taking details from customers, so we can raise this with our network team on an individual basis. I'm glad though that you have found a workaround, if you would like us to get this raised, please contact our social team via this link and we will be happy to help 🙂

@Andy , I don't have any social media presence, and honestly, I am sooo very tired of the many hours I've spent on Tobi, phone calls with support teams and chats. I'm not one for ranting, but I'm paying for a service which I can only use, in part. It makes it impossible to call any services where there's a lengthy calling queue. This only happened when I upgraded my contract and the same happened to my partner when he upgraded too. I am at the point where I am considering raising this with your legal team as I'm not being provided with the service I'm paying for.

Hi@Andy fraid I don't do social media either but I do have to spend time daily on voice calls to support elderly family. If they're looking likely to go over the 29-50 I can just say ' hang on, I'll put you on hold ' and then do that for just a few seconds. Likewise with customer service calls etc even when waiting in the queue.

Look, I'm getting the full performance of the phone and I can prevent the cut off easily (so long as I remember! ) once

I've started the call. I'm just wondering if this will work for  other phones or if it's of use to anyone?

Please feel free to post/ circulate the idea to see if it's of benefit 👍

Hi everyone, thanks for the update on the work around you’ve found. I know this isn’t what you should have to do to keep the call connected.

If there’s anyone viewing this thread who uses Social Media, then please get in touch with us there if you haven’t already, as my team are still raising these individually.

I Know this isn’t possible for users who don’t have access to Social Media. This would mean calling us on 191 free from a Vodafone mobile or 03333 040 191 from a different phone.

@Baysik I understand how important it is to keep a call connected, especially when talking to elderly relatives.

Have a read of this...

https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Android/Pixel-3xl-drops-calls-after-half-hour/td-p/2657129

Vodafone know the cause, and ignoring it.

I have this issue with wifi calls dropping at 29 minutes 50 seconds on both a Pixel 6a and 7 Pro. Wifi calling is essential for home working due to a weak mobile signal.

As noted this problem has been known for several years and Android versions. Vodafone chat just say speak to Google. Everything about this timeout seems to refer to Vodafone. Does anyone have a solution other than demanding to end contract as not it for purpose and going to another network?
