Trouble with WiFi Calling and Weak 4G Signal

Anonymous
Not applicable

I live in a rural area with solid 100MB+ fibre broadband, but since Vodafone stopped Sure Signal, I’ve been relying on WiFi calling. Lately, a weak 4G signal keeps interrupting my calls, causing dropouts and poor quality. Is there any way to force my phone to prioritize WiFi over 4G. if anyone knows of any open WhatsApp groups discussing similar issues with Vodafone, please share!

That's pretty easy or it's a pain depending on you you look at it. In the quick settings you should be able to just disable the 4G connection. This will leave wifi calling working along with everything else that just requires a network connection. Should still be able to use sms as well.

The problem is remembering to reactivate 4G when you go out.

Wow, that was super easy and fast! I can't believe I didn't think of that 🙊

Some recent Android releases allow you to choose between mobile-preferred & WiFi-preferred.

Otherwise, the flight mode trick should work.

I believe this is a network service configuration issue. On my S21 and using an EE SIM, I can select Wi-Fi calling as the preferred option. With the same handset and on the Vodafone network, this is not currently possible. Vodafone needs to fix this immediately so that people can get a reliable mobile service in marginal network service areas.

There is something you can do on Samsung handsets for Wi-Fi calling to be on all the time when Wi-Fi is active. Go to 'Modes and Routines'. Create a routine that activates Flight Mode automatically when you connect to your Wi-Fi network(s). I'm not sure whether you need another routine to actively deactivate Flight Mode when you disconnect but I have this and it works reliably, unlike Vodafone's Wi-Fi Calling service.

All this talk of flight mode I wonder if anyone else realises flight mode disables wifi too. The object of this thread was to connect to wifi.

Sorry, should've said. The actions for the routine are:

1) Activate flight mode

2) Activate Wi-Fi
