Hi. I have a fast, working gigafast connection using the supplied VF router. However, it is missing some functionality that I require for home users, eg DNS settings via DHCP server, plus a load of stuff I can't do for work, such as vlans.
I have tried to configure my old Draytek 2950n which has a wan side connection via ethernet. Plugged it into CPE, entered the PPOE username and password. But getting 'no response from server'. Have tried vlan 101 and 2000 but same result. Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks
Solved! Go to best answer.

3rd line have come through with some additional and essential info! Need to be on vlan 911 to get a connection.

Can you confirm that the Asus RT-AC86U works connecting directly to the Gigafast ONT box. Is there any difficulty with setting up the VLAN 911 tags? It is a lot of money to spend on a router, so I need to know that it works.
Need to change from the supplied voda router as that does not even allow to change wifi channel!

My router is Netgear R8000P, and I have big trouble to connect to Vodafone fiber , but when change Vlan to 911 everything is working perfect, and definitely if you use more then 10 devices you need router

I would appreciate any advice here:
I just got connected to Gigafast in Milton Keynes.
All I want to be able to do is access a remote machine (simple windows server through remote desktop would be idea). Can I do this with the supplied THG3000 router.
If not could anyone tell me what functionality I need and an example modem - I see several above in the thread but think that is likely more functionality than I need
Many thanks

This will depend on what remote solution you decide upon. There are commercial products such as LogMeIn, Solarwinds etc. a little research on these will tell you what your routers will need to support on both ends. Personally I wouldn't try and use Windows RDP if that was what you were thinking.

thanks @TG123
Why do you say dont use RDP?
Im just after a simple solution for occasional use - so not looking to pay for an expensive commercial solution. Hence the reason I thought RDP would suffice
Any other info appreciated
Thanks

There be dragons out there. In the end it's down to your appetite for risk.

I would like to add to the thread that I have successfully connected an Asus RT-AC86u to a Gigafast connection.
It is setup as a standalone router with the Vodafone router no longer attached.
I tried connecting many months ago after getting my user/password from Vodafone and changing the required settings on the router without success.
The existing vodafone router wifi was getting chronically slow to the point on most of my wifi devices were averaging 20mbps or less on 2.4ghz and 60mbps or less on 5Ghz.
This is what i did. It maybe of help to others.
1: Upgraded the firmware to latest revision of Merlin 384.18
2: Added the vodafone username / password to the wan section of the router
3: Under lan/iptv added vlan 911 to the internet section - shield isp profile (Manual Setting)
4: Set the IP of the Asus to the same as the Vodafone router 192.168.1.1 under LAN / LAN IP / ip address and
also under lan / dhcp server / default gateway
5: Set the 2.4g and 5.G ssid the same as the vodafone router.
I disconnected the Vodafone router and attached the asus router in the same location with the Wan cable from the ont directly to the wan port on the Asus Router.
After a couple of minutes all the lights went solid white. I noticed my google home hub had reconnected to the internet.
I then ran some speed tests
averaging 65-85mbps on 2.4ghz / 220-240mbps on 5.ghz
Wired connection - vodafone watford -
Vodafone Router 580mbps-640mpbs down
Asus Router - 740mbps-780mbps down
So far so good.

Thanks for sharing
Can you use a Vodafone land-line with that modem? Currently mine plugs straight into the Vodafone router

No problem.
I haven't got any phone connected to the router & never had one connected to the Vodafone router either. I am not sure if the Asus router has VoIP like the Vodafone router.

Vodaphone does not support voip on 3rd party routers
