500 Mb or 900 Mb fibre BB install Questions

Hi,

Questions around physical install of this service, currently I have  a bb copper connection form the pole so the cable come from the pole and terminate on the outside of my house in a junction box which also has a cat6 cable running from that junction box through my house above my living room to under the stairs where the router is.

I have spoken to Vodafone who advise me the ONT will probably be installed on the other side of that wall where the junction box is (internally) and then router will need to connect to ONT.

The problem I have is the router need to be under the stairs so I need the current Cat6 which is connected to the external junction box to now terminate inside the house.

Two issues will the BT engineer re-terminating this Cat6 for me to the ONT which will involve feeding this Cat6 cable back into the house. Although initially when Openreach installed the Cat6 for my current service they did not leave much slack; only enough to terminate to outside junction. So if I wanted them to re-terminate that Cat6 inside the house I would require some sort of coupler so I can extend the current Cat6.

So this is my own ideas around the install but I have asked Vodafone can I speak to someone technical to discuss the install and they said I will need to order and discuss with engineer once he turns up onsite? Is that right? Surely I can speak to someone technical rather than order the BB service then wait weeks to be either told we can do this or cannot do it?

So if I'm understanding this correctly now:  The purple (cat6) cable from the outside junction box is being used to carry the phone/VDSL2 signal to the Master Socket.  This all kind of complicates things, and I don't think you are going to get the OR engineer to do what you want!

What should be possible is to get the ONT located near the entry point of the purple cable, and have the OR engineer "officially" disconnect the purple cable.  After you or the OR engineer has retrieved the purple cable from the wall you could then put a suitable ethernet plug on both ends of the purple cable, and use that to take the signal from the ONT to your router under the stairs:

ONT > Ethernet > router       The master socket now being disconnected.

*As @Ripshod mentioned though it could be awkward at some future time should you ever need to replace the ethernet cable!

Judging by the size of that hole, you should just be able to push it back through.

Should I just book order the service and wait till a OR engineer tell me if this is possible, just wanted to know if Voda had some sort of team that could answer these questions prior to me ordering the service..

I don't think Vodafone are capable of giving a truthful answer over the phone.

You will have to go FTTP eventually, best to get it over with now. Hopefully you get a helpful Openreach engineer, who will carry out the installation to your satisfaction. Tea and biscuits sometimes help.
