Solution

Adding an Extender

Hoping somebody can help.  Just recently switched to Vodafone Broadband and all devices have been accepted onto the network with the exception of my TP-Link Extender (no lan plug access so just wifi connection).

This worked fine with my previous provider and my laptop was able to connect without any problem.  Now what is happening is that I can see the extender in the network list, so I know it has paired with the main router but when I try to connect I need to enter the Wifi password, which when |I do it advises me that the network key is incorrect.

I've tried both the wifi password, the network hub password and the MAC number on the extender itself (because I saw a diagram on one site saying that was the password - it doesn't seem to be).

Has Vodafone blocked extenders on their broadband?

I may just keep trying. It took about 6 attempts to connect the Hive Heating system but the wi fi extender over 50 up till now and counting . Tried it in my home connected first time , reset and tried again to Vodaphone and nothing , thanks for the quick reply

What model of extender do you have?

Have you tried a factory reset on it, and start again, following the instructions carefully?

Last month we got a new "Vodafone WiFi Hub" (Model THG3000). Our existing NetGear extender then ceased to work with it, despite massive amounts of time spent doing all the above kinds of things... so I threw it away and bought a TP-Link RE300. This also failed in the same way... in that I could connect it to the hub but nothing could connect to the extender. By accident, I found a solution... in the TP-Link "Tether" App (downloaded onto my mobile), During set-up in "Tether" I decided to re-name the 2.4G and 5G connections (whereas previously they had both been given the same name of "[HubName]_EXT", which I had accepted). I used "[HubName]_EXT2.4G" and "[HubName]_EXT5G". When I then rebooted everything, I could now see the 2.4G extension, though NOT the 5G extension. Anyway, I can now connect to the "...2.4G" extension network. Hope this helps others.

I don't believe they have blocked 3rd party extenders, there have been people on here using them.

The default password is so unnecessarily complicated, I would suggest changing it to something simple in the router, and try reconnecting the extender again, ( do another reset first) just so you can be sure the password is correct.

I appreciate people trying to help but so far I've already tried these suggestions, including changing the password, still said it was incorrect.

My son moved into new house yesterday and like another person on this site I cannot get the wifi extender to work , it appears on the network, will not accept the password, for any device , tried the extender in another house and all fine, did reset even plugged it into the same 2 way socket as the Vodaphone router but no look

Hello, same problem, did you manage to solve it?

Hey @RawMaya Thanks for your message - I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your extender. We don't block any extenders or boosters so I'd recommend getting in touch with the manufacturer to look into this further.
