Admin access to Wifi 6 router

Hi,

Has anyone been given admin access to their wifi 6 router by Vodafone? I feel I have been banging my head against a wall trying to solve router problems. The app and web gui are next to useless for doing anything other than viewing info we already know.

I have been trying to connect home devices (Ring and Sonos) without much luck. Splitting the network (2.4 and 5) might solve the issue although this wasn't necessary with my previous BT router.

Regards,

Mike.

I have had the same issue. I have lots of 2.4ghz smart kit that can’t connect to the new pro router. I gave up in the end & set up a 2.4ghz network on my old sky router, switched the dhcp off & plugged it into one of the boosters via Ethernet. All working now.
hope you get sorted 👍

Nobody has, and it simply isn't Vodafone's way of working. They lock down their routers and do not want us to have access.

Hi,

This is what I thought. I can see their reasons and wouldn't mind so much if they were prepared to configure the router themselves but they won't. I really don't want to get involved in router config but I've never needed to before. They have said I can get my own router and they would provide the broadband access details but I don't think they would support voip then. Since Openreach have disabled our landline that's not an option.

I believe that many of their problems come from the new wifi 6 routers which they or their support staff don't understand.

I am surprised there aren't more complaints as it seems that many home devices (such as Ring or Sonos) are having problems connecting to Vodafones default wifi routers. They seem to regard 2.4ghz band as a legacy product. They'd probably broadcast the shipping forecast over DAB if they were responsible for that. For now I think ethernet is the best option where practical!

I think you can stack the VF router on the non-VF one; plug it's WAN socket into the LAN socket of the non-VF router, turn off the VF router WiFi and plug-in the VOIP device.

I believe that has been tried previously but didn't work, possibly because of the double NAT, and the fact the router isn't authenticating.

If I was on digital voice, I would definitely give it a go though.

Thanks I think that will be worth trying. I'll dig out an old router once VF give me the access details and test it. I'll let you know.

Cheers.

It won't work. The WAN port seems to be hard-coded for PPPoE

Thanks. Will give that a try. 👍

Hi,

I dug out an old (very old!) TalkTalk router. Set it up as a 2.4ghz access point and the Sonos setup worked immediately. I had some problems connecting to the old router initially (Technicolour TG582N -- ip 192.168.1.254) and the gui was awkward. All I did was hit the factory reset button and once connected change to bridge mode and switch off DHCP. I also changed the SSID to something meaningful and set the password to the same as the VF router. The good thing about it being so old was that it only had a 2.4ghz option! Also with my phone connected to the new 2.4ghz network my phone connection at home seems more stable. We have next to no mobile signal here and the Three 'Home Signal' hasn't been stable since we moved from BT to Vodafone. Haven't had any problems since using the new access point. My phone phone is now only getting speeds of Rec/Trans of 52/104mbps which is fine considering our broadband is 70mbps.

I'll leave the wifi 6 for the computers.

Thanks for your help. Vodafone Support should be aware of this solution.

Regards,

Mike.
