Blocked from community server

Have been having issues accessing a community server on an online game I play through my Xbox. Had no issues in the last 2 years of playing same game  with Vodafone but moved to Sky (full fibre). Left under the cooling off period and returned to Vodafone (full fibre). From day one have not been able to access the server but can access others (also 3rd party community servers). I have to use my mobile hotspot and have no problems.

It seems as it leaves the game to join a third party server it just freezes. I’ve contacted Vodafone 3 times now and nothing has changed except for the first call where I regain access but still had a few issues so he escalated the issue.  Now back at square one (I have a suspicion that the team I was referred to might have done something as I missed a call due to driving and around the same time the internet went off at home for a while).

Doesn’t seem to be exclusive to Vodafone as other people are having issues but they simply called their ISP and had it fixed.

I have absolutely no idea what may be causing the problem, shame you can't find out what the other ISP's did to cure the same problem for their users.

My only suggestion would be to try changing the DNS servers in the router, as that will bypass Vodafone's content controls.

Assuming you have the THG3000

When I’ve asked them all they’ve said is that they’ve called their provider and told them to unblock it (the server I’m assuming) and that was it.

It’s definitely a strange one.

As far as I know, the only blocking Vodafone do is via their DNS server, so bypassing that, as above, should cure it,

I’ll take a look - appreciate the reply. I’m not too technically minded though.

Hi just thought I’d update and let you know that worked for my main profile. For some reason I’m still in the same situation with my alt profile ( I am still having desync issues but hoping they eventually go).

Knowing as little as I do I thought that if one is fixed all would be. I don’t suppose you have any other suggestion as to why only one profile was fixed?  I’m only asking as out of all the people I’ve asked you seem to have at least led me in the right direction and I really appreciate that.

I know as little about gaming, as you do about internet. LOL

But yes, if it was the content controls blocking your main profile, and bypassing them by changing the DNS settings has cured it. I would definitely have expected it to work for everything.

I would just suggest rebooting the device (xbox) to ensure it has picked up the new DNS settings, but other than that, I am at a loss.

If I can, a question for you. What was the problem with Sky that made you come back? Apart from the price, I would expect them to be very good.

Haha - no problem. I figured from what you said earlier in that you were answering more the blocking rather than anything game related. I just thought I’d take my chance as your advice seems spot on. Will try the restart. I did uninstall/reinstall so fingers crossed.

We left because we could barely get WiFi outside of the living room (where we have the router). I was lucky as the console is next to the q box which we found out is a booster.

Again, not really technical but we could only base it on how we could get WiFi in most of the house previously on Vodafone fibre to cabinet versus how it was with sky full broadband. It just didn’t seem right.  Now with Vodafone again and it seems a lot better.

For me personally I really do like the online help the Vodafone team give. I had been a mobile customer for well over 8 years and rarely had a question that wasn’t answered. I’m not all that good on the phone so that suits me well.

Again, I really do appreciate your help and thank you - I genuinely ran out of places to ask within the game community without coming across as a nuisance

Well, I think its safe to say that if there is one thing that causes more issues than Vodafone's locked-down routers, it's Sky Q boxes!
