Digital Voice and other Voip Line

I currently have conventional PSTN landline and FTTC broadband with another provider. I have a separate VOIP account connected via an ATA, such that I make outgoing calls via VOIP and receive incoming calls via the PSTN., using the same handset; (the phone connection is in to the ATA, then out to the phoneline)

I am considering moving to Vodafone who offer broadband with a Digita Voice "landline".

If I simply transfer the phone connection that goes, from ATA to phoneline, to ATA to phone connector on Vodafone router, will I be able to operate as before?

If you transfer your phone connection from the ATA to the phone connector on the Vodafone router as you described, it is likely that you will be able to operate as before and able to make and receive calls using your own Voip provider. However, you may need to configure the Vodafone router to allow passthrough for the VOIP traffic and setup the necessary settings for your Voip provider. It's also worth to check with Vodafone support to see if they support the use of third-party Voip providers with their router.

Thanks for mthe reply.

I shall know whether it works in a couple weeks when I change over from my current provider. I have used 3 different routers since I've had my VOIP account, and none of these needed any configuring to enable the VOIP. I have assumed that the ATA is doing any necessary configuration, and converts the VOIP traffic to the necessary format for transmission over the internet, in a similar way to the processing that a PC does to convert this message to the necessary format.

I have believed that the routers do not know, or care, what devices I have connected, they just "route" the signals from the devices through to the internet.

Is this an over simplification of how it all works!

@dejjones

Please bear in mind @Masterman2941  is just posting A.I. answers.

Having read your query, I am a little confused.

I assume that your out going VoIP calls are not using the same number as the incoming PSTN calls, otherwise i can't see how it works.

Thank you Jayach for the reply.

Now I am confused too. Are you saying that Masterman2941 is like TOBi, the Chat system?

My current setup is, my PSTN line and my VOIP account are 2 gateways on my ATA. I use the VOIP for outgoing calls and the PSTN for incoming calls. No one knows my VOIP number, but my VOIP Caller ID is set to my PSTN number. I'm pretty sure this is a standard set up to avoid paying  PSTN outgoing call charges.

No, but the forum is suffering from new people creating accounts, posting some nonsense they get by asking the query on an A.I. chatbot and posting that as if it is a genuine reply. They then come back later and post another reply with a scam link in it.

Take a look at @Masterman2941's other posts, all posted the same day as they joined and all obviously AI written.

Thanks for the warning!

There's no point worrying about the spammers. Use of AI is obvious. There's no point banning them as they'll just come back with another disposable email and username. It's not just this forum, it's getting more common everywhere. We get used to it.

Thanks for explaining your setup, I can see no reason why your ATA will treat the TEL output from the Vodafone router any different to the PSTN line, so yes it should continue to work, just as it does now.

As to your original question - as long as your 3rd party voip doesn't use the same ports as vodafone's digital voice there's no reason for one to interfere with the other. Vodafone digital voice uses sip port 5065 and rtsp port 10010.
