Fritzbox 7530 and VOIP

Hi all,

Just recently renewed with VF broadband and I was hoping I could continue to use my VOIP capable Friztbox 7530 with my old analogue phone (plugged into the 'FON' port)

VF support gave me all the login details (username etc) and registrar/proxy servers but it won't connect and the router always logs the same error 'Registration of internet telephone number (number) failed. Reason for error: DNS error'

I've got the router set to use VF's own DNS servers and no matter what I put in the username or password (i.e I can even put in total garbage!) it still says the same thing, so I guess its a more fundamental connectivity problem

The registrar and proxy servers can't be resolved by my router for some reason - and I tried checking via a command line as well so is there a way to fix this - or even put the ip address of the registrar and proxy servers instead?

There's a whole lot of other rather obscure settings that also need tweaking, and so far we've only found those on Grandstream voip devices.

Ah that's a real shame, I would have thought the fritzbox routers were the better choice, looks like my landline is going in the bin then

Seems to be a basic dns lookup issue - it can't resolve the voip server names so can't even connect to login, I'm guessing there's no way to get the IP addresses so I'm thinking putting the original VF router in, and then connecting my router as the wifi device - think thats the only way around it

There's a lot more to it than just dns. Other settings that need changing are the MAC headers, ports, encoding.....

I'll not list them all but if you need a good hour's reading:

Thanks for the info, looks like it’s beyond the fairly basic settings of my router. I’m going to chuck the VF router in and piggy back my router for the WiFi and hopefully that will work!

Just to update, I had to give up and use the poor VF router just to get the landline to work, they did provide the VOIP details (incorrect!) but my router doesn't have the necessary settings exposed to use them anyway

Using my two fritzbox routers in mesh mode with the router acting basically as a modem does seem to be working though, just the downside of an extra device/power socket in use!
