I'm planning to add two Deco M5 units to my wifi system as the THG3000 signal is very poor in some areas.
Is it really necessary to turn off the wifi on the THG3000 to everything work fine?
My plan was to keep the THG3000 upstairs to use both wifi/wired connections and to wire one of the m5 units downstairs and wireless connect it to the other one.
Or would be better to buy three m5 units and turn off wifi on THG3000?

No you don't have to turn the THG3000 Wi-Fi off, but two deco's will probably be all you need. As the THG3000 can't join in the mesh it will be more likely to interfere than help.
