New customer SMB/USB shares not working

I've literally just signed up for a new vf contract and connected the new router in the past week. I previously used a 3rd party router were I had USB shares working fine on my previous isp.

I have tried both enabling SMB1 and disabling it and that didn't make any difference. I can't find anything in any of the old posts that seems to make a difference.

Can anyone help or have any suggestion. If nothing works I will have to ask VF for the username and password and set up my old router.

Opening the device Vodafone Wi-fi should list the shares but instead I get this.Trying to access the share directly doesn't work

From everything I've seen on this site, the SMB shares should work fine (once you've set them back up on your devices) with the latest VF modem/router.

That leaves the quite common issue of the power drain from the drives you are using.  USB drives should be fine, SSDs may work, but even HHDs with a low power requirement are unlikely to work properly.

*It'll be interesting to see the images once they are approved!

The drives I have connected are small mechanical hard drives that worked with my old router. I suppose its a possibility the ports aren't giving them enough juice, but they do show up as operational in the wifi hub admin panel.

OK disregard the above. The drives definitely work with the hub because they are accessible via DLNA and windows media player. SMB is however refusing connection to the drives in windows. I've also tried from a different PC on my network (wired) and various android devices, none of which are able to access the shares.

The images are just the generic errors given by windows explorer file manager when I try to open the shares.

For example when I try to access \\vodafone.broadband\GDRIVE_mobileUSB_1_4066

it says Windows cannot access \\vodafone.broadband\GDRIVE_mobileUSB_1_4066

check the problem with the name otherwise there might be a problem with the network.

I am using both the USB slots one for a 20 years old hp printer and one for a USB flash drive. i do get the issue as above from time to time 

I can always get access via DLNA, media player etc but using file manager it works some days and other days I can't get access and it says Windows cannot access \\vodafone.broadband\usbdrive etc but on a different laptop it says can't access the drive because the drive is already in use by another program. not sure if this will point you in the right directions

Have you tried enabling the deprecated SMB 1.0/1.1 protocol in Windows (I'm assuming that you're on Windows).

Hi yes I did mention that I have tried both enabling and disabling SMB 1 in my original post.

One thing of note was that I couldn't get the check for firmware update to work so there may have been a fix there?

I have since been in touch with online chat and they promptly got me the username and password I needed to use my old tplink modem/router which has 2 usb 3.0 usb ports and ironically uses SMB 1, which works perfectly.

Windows file sharing of the USB works for me and I don't have SMB1 enabled.

No, nobody can. It just doesn't work. The router should automatically update if it needs it

Latest firmware is, I believe, 19.4.0551-3269082.
