the wifi doesnt connect on some devices and when it does a notification pops up saying that the router is out of date, To recieve a new one do i need to call vodafone and request a new one or do i buy a non-vodafone one in a shop?

Which router is this? Can you share a screenshot of the popup as I doubt it's validity?

I suspect you are using apple devices. What they are complaining about is that the Vodafone router doesn't have WPA3. If you really want to use WPA3, yes you will need a 3rd party router. (the new Pro II router probably has WPA3, but you would need a new contract to get that)
