We've just moved in to a new flat and the previous tennent has left their router behind. We have an open reach connection thing installed already so I don't think we'd need an engineer to come out. So would we be able to set up an account with the old Box and how?

@Scweeks Could you upload a picture of the "thing"?
If the "thing" is the ONT then that's the bit that the fibre network connects to.
If the "thing" is the Master Socket then that connects to the copper wires from the telegraph.
Neither of those two would be changed, but the router may not be suitable and anyway the ISP will send you their one.

I connected it to the router and the Internet light goes red and flashes so I'm assuming I just need to pay for the WiFi? But idk how to set that up with vodaphone without them giving me a new box.

It's the connection you pay for not the WiFi. So long as you are a Vodafone customer they will provide you with suitable equipment. As that equipment needs to be in place should you require help from customer services its probably a good idea that you allow them to send you a new router!
*Remember to check your lease regards what you can do about changing phone broadband suppliers.

You can't, you need to sign up for a new account, which yes will get them to send you a new router.
I'm presuming the router that was left is a Vodafone one, but the system will not let you simply take over the previous account.
Have you actually signed up yet? If not best to do it sooner than later, it will probably take between 10-14 days to go live,
If you sign up via one of the comparison sites you should be able to get vouchers.
