Slow speeds on Microsoft servers

Has anyone else experienced very slow speeds when accessing files on Microsoft servers (Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint etc.)? My download speeds are normally in line with my max line speed (c. 56 mbps) until I come to open a file hosted on a Microsoft server. For example, when downloading a file from MS Teams or SharePoint, the download speed is about 70 kbps. Which is unusable.

The problem only occurs when I am using my Vodafone fibre broadband connection at home.

I have reset the router, disabled content controls and even swapped out the Vodafone Router for a 3rd party router. Absolutely no difference. It is extremely perplexing and frustrating.

Anyone else come across this issue?

Perssonally I haven't, but it sounds similar to here: https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Internet-speed/Gigafast-900-poor-speeds-and-help-required/m-p/268660...

Although they are on Gigafast.

Did you get to the bottom of this? I am also experiencing the same issue against Azure services

Hi @cbananas - if everything else is working okay, then it does sound like it's that specific site that's causing this.

You can see lots of helpful information on improving your home WiFi on our Home Broadband support page:Smiling:

Hi,

Its definitely NOT an issue with the Microsoft sites its an issue with Vodafone and those sites. I went through weeks of on and off troubleshooting last year and Vodafone concluded that it was a vodafone issue. We tested wifi, wired and hotpsots. Both vodafone broadband and a vodafone hotspot had slow download speeds of around 200kbps.

Using alternative broadband or hotspot immediately made te speeds to up to between 3-4mbps. They gave me google DNS settings which seemed to work but it was an anomoly and they're now back to slow again.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, agreed. This is a vodafone problem. Unfortunately I did not have another ISP to test with.

What was even more frustrating was that vodafone definitely throttle across all your VPN connections. For example, if you have 3 VPN tunnels they would all share that 200kbps. Essentially 200kbps / 3...

What's worse is, I spoke to their support desk and they were adamant that this was not a vodafone problem and that they do not throttle connections at all.

Fortunately my contract with them had expired around the same time and I moved ISP's. I now get full speeds with my new ISP.

Did Vodafone ever get to the bottom of this? I'm experiencing the same issue and it's driving me to insanity!

If I use a hotspot from my phone or another internet connection there is no issue - it's only with my Vodafone Broadband.

In the end, I changed ISP (to Plusnet) and have had no problems since. Shame - I had no other problems with Vodafone broadband.

Looks like everyone on this thread has moved to another ISP to resolve this issue

Looks like I’ll have to do the same. Was reluctant as I need to use my own router for the way my network is configured and a lot of other providers seem to make it really hard for you…!
