I'm trying to port my landline number to another provider - in this case it is a SIP provider, so the landline is not being taken over.
My problem is that my SIP provider has submitted the porting request but Vodafone has rejected it since it has the wrong cupid code. I think the cupid code is allocated by Ofcom and indentifies the provider's network. Since Vodafone has acquired a number of providers - eg C&W, Energis, Thus etc, it has a number of cupid codes. For each porting request that gets rejected I would be charged £20, so I am loath to go through all of the codes that Ofcom lists, and I'm not even sure if this list is complete. I can't understand why Vodafone can't simply look at my phone number and recognise which network it is on and then do the port. The SIP provider has had problems like this before with Vodafone and has asked me to call Vodafone and find out the code. Customer services aren't much use as they had never heard of cupid codes. Has anyone else had any joy with this or recommendations? Hopefully someone from VF might be able to help if they monitor these boards.

Hello Andy,
Yes, it was Sipgate that I ported to. They were good at the port and gave me an extra "go" for free with the various codes.
I also have basic account and it eventually went through. I think the issue is that the ports are done without the associated access line being ported, which is what would happen with a port to a SIP provider.
I can't believe that Vodafone still has this problem. I started this thread about four years ago and I see notifications of folks like you posting against it a few times a year! They better get it sorted soon as I can only see FTTP making matters worse.

That's great, Steve. I'll go back to them with that code.
I totally agree with you. With the end of copper lines in sight there is going to be an inrush of migrations to FTTP. The blurb I was getting from BT before I moved gave the impression that there was No Alternative to their Digital Voice (with several e-mails imploring me to plug in my SmartHub) but other ISPs are going to have to get their act together too. It occurs to me that this would be a good time for 3rd party VOIP providers to up their marketing campaigns.
In fairness to Vodafone, 007 is the code thy initially gave me as above, but I was looking for verification to avoid a failed porting attempt.
Andy.
