Swann Security CCTV

Hi

Just migrated from BT to Vodafone with full fibre installed.

I have a Swann Security Set-up (SWDVK-845804V-UK) and been using on BT for over 18 months no problem and the system itself works perfectly.

The router/modem needed to be located away from the main box and so I bought a new 3m ethernet (Cat 6e) cable to connect the box to the router.

At first everything was fine as I was able to utilise the Swann app and remotely view the feeds and back up files saving to a Dropbox. Then after a couple of days the system shows "offline". If I disconnect the ethernet cable and reinsert it starts working again for a couple of days before going offline again. I've tried three different cables so happy it's not that, besides it working for a time.

Interestingly, when I'm at the premises and devices are on the same network/wifi it works whilst showing offline on the app.

Has anyone else come across the same issue? Does having static IP make any difference?

If it didn't work at all then I could understand it a little but I just can't get my head around why it works fine for a couple of days making you think it's fixed only for it to fail later - makes troubleshooting impossible !

Hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance

.@cuffy Over the last 2 years (and probably longer) there has been a number of dicussions about the DHCP Lease time on the THG3000 router and what you are seeing does sound like it could be related. As I am not using the Vodafone router I cannot look at the settings and grab a screen-shot, but try looking in the LAN settings to see what (if any) DHCP timeout is currently set and wether you can make the connection to Swann permanent. Alternatively can the Swann be setup with a fixed address.

The lease time by default on the THG3000 is "Forever"

If it was the lease timing out, I would expect it to stop working locally as well.

Sounds more firewall related, but why it works for a while I can't imagine.

You touched on this a little in your opening post. It would be worth assigning a static IP in the dhcp settings on the router, or in the swann control panel or even both.

If a fixed public IP is needed it's just a quick chat with vodafone (link at the end) and you'll get one for free, though I don't recall even seeing that as a requirement.

What about DDNS? NOIP is free and reliable.

Thanks for the answers so far ... it was puzzling me when I saw that the Lease Time was set on forever.

I've assigned an IP to the camera in the router settings. Strangely doing the same in Swann stopped it working.

Only problem is that whenever I do some changes it starts to work and then stops 2 days later, so I won't know for a while if I've fixed it.

Appreciate the suggestions and in the meantime, fingers crossed.
